Today, 10 weeks after breaking my knee and 6 1/2 weeks after surgery, I was given permission to walk in my house without my crutch and brace. Yay! It isn’t quite pretty but how exciting!

Students start school on Wednesday and I will wear my brace and take my crutch. I probably won’t use my crutch all the time, but I will wear my brace to help kids understand the idea of space and not standing right behind me! I am a tad afraid if the little ones tripping me accidentally just because they want to stand with their nose in your butt hole! I will phase it out, but no worries. On the mend!

We also started working on stairs. Ouch!

Good news. It sounds like you are making good progress. Take it easy at school, the beginning of the school year is always exhausting.

Yay! Hope you're back to normal soon!

When I returned to school with a cane the kids were really good about being careful around me.

Excellent news!!! After my hip surgery, I started using this term: “Know your place in space.” I explained that the children need to start understanding their surroundings and how they moved in limited spaces. It really helped.

Also, shortly after returning to school I had morning yard duty. A 1st grader ran straight into my new hip and bounced off. Child looked at me and said “Mrs. K. What do you have I there?” My response: “titanium.”

Yay!! Sounds like you are making steady progress. Be careful around the littles - they move like lightening (except for when you need them to move quickly)! So glad to hear the good news!

It's been a long summer for you, for sure. Going to work will be free physical therapy and you'll be rolling along in no time.
Enjoy your freedom from crutches (as needed).

Keltikmom, that is hilarious. Kids say the darndest things, don't they?

Sore and stiff today. I guess from walking yesterday evening. Standing exercises are getting easier, though, so... Thanks for understanding my excitement!

That sounds like good progress!

The butthole comment reminds me of why little kids aren’t for me.

Glad you are feeling better! It sounds like you are ready to return to the trenches. Is there a fridge/freezer close to your classroom? It might not be a bad idea to have an ice pack on hand during your lunch break or after recess duty. I'm sure your new little ones will become very protective of you after you explain your injury. Go Team Kahlua!

Congratulations on your great progress! I’m glad to hear you’re on the mend and will soon be ditching the crutch for good!
