Prayers for my Mom & Dad
Old 07-10-2022, 07:10 PM
  #1

Yesterday I was on the phone with my mom and later my dad. They both told me that mom had fallen outside and was sitting icing her leg. She was fine.

Today, get a call that mom is in the hospital er since she had a hard time getting around and could barely move around. Apparently an Amazon driver saw her on the ground and helped her up the stairs, then their neighbor came down and carried my mom upstairs to bed. Dad had to take her to the bathroom throughout the night, using a walker to do that. I'm not sure how mom was found today, but my sister took her over to the ER. I think my nephew-in-law helped her into the car {or maybe the neighbor came back down}.

My mom had a lot of tests, blood and x-rays & everything looked good. She is staying overnight. Apparently the doctor asked her if she wanted to stay & she said she wanted to go home. My sister looked at the doctor and shook her head. So the doctor told her that he felt it was best if she stayed the night. So that is what she is doing. [because she has alzheimers they didn't want to get her riled up]. She will probably end up staying in the hospital for a few days because she can't walk and go up/down steps.

So, I am asking if you can say a prayer for my mom to have a healthy recovery. Thankfully my dad will be able to sleep tonight since he didn't get any sleep last night.

My dad & mom has to learn to tell us when something happens. My sister & her family were away this weekend, but my sister-in=law was dog sitting at their home around the corner. They didn't say anything to her or me yesterday.

I hope your mom has a quick recovery, and your dad is able to get some sleep. Parenting your parents is so difficult.

I'm so sorry! It's so difficult when they can no longer really identify and describe symptoms. My dad always thought he was just fine. Even if he was moaning with pain, he was fine, why were we asking? It was made worse by my mom covering for him and agreeing with whatever he said because she didn't want to upset him.

I am so sorry! I think all parents have a hard time releasing control and letting us see them as vulnerable. I hope your mom has a restful night and recovers quickly.

Its so hard being the child and hearing of your parents falls/illnesses!

I hope mom heals quickly. Sending prayers!

Has anyone thought about maybe having them move to a one story home?

Im thinking of both of your parents.

And I agree with teachnkids that they would be much better off in a 1-story house. Youd be surprised to find that 1-story is a huge improvement in quality of life. I know, I made that move.

I'm glad they are keeping her.
One thing family may want to check is if she has been admitted. Yes, she's in the hospital, but has she actually been admitted or is she there under what they call 'observation'. If Mom ends up needing to go to rehab, Medicare has specific rules about payment and I believe that sometimes 'observation' does not allow for Medicare payment.

Family may also want to talk to the hospital social.worker about getting them some help if Mom returns home immediately. I've found them helpful in the past. They know the ins and outs of the process to get help and can point you in the correct direction.

Hoping for the best outcome for your mom and dad.
