Anyone want to share their daily schedule? I seem to struggle every year trying to fit everything in and would love to see what all of you do!

This is our tentative schedule:

http://www.bv229.k12.ks.us/lve_3rdGrade/schedule.htm

We won't know for sure until we establish recess times during that first week back to school.

Our principal highly encourages our grade level teams to teach the same subject at the same time. It's nice in a way, because we have been able to do some flexible groupings, rotations, and team teaching.

class schedule

Clip to ScrapBook #4

This is my schedule last year, it will change slightly this year but only the days I have specialists.

8:55-9:40 Morning Work
9:40-10:05 Corrections
10:05-10:10 Bathroom Break
10:10-10:55 Specialists: PE (x2), Library, Music, Computers
10:55-11:55 60 minute math block
11:55-12:45 Lunch/Recess
12:45-1:00 SSR/ teacher read aloud
1:00-2:30 90 minute reading block
2:30-2:50 Science, Social Studies
2:50-3:00 Clean up/Jobs
3:00 Dismissal

Not much wiggle room in our schedules. We are required to do 60 minutes of uninterupted math and 90 minutes of uninterupted reading. Science, Social Studies, writing and computers all get pushed to the side. Handwriting has gone out the window, I am lucky if my kids learn half the alphabet in cursive. Computers is something I do on my own. My masters is in technology so I like to incorporate it. We don't actually have a computer teacher. We have a beautiful lab with 30 brand new top of the line apples, but it rarely gets used due to the requirements of our time.

schedule

Until I know my exact lunch and activity times, it may vary - but this was mine before:

7:40-8:00 - morning work
8:00-8:15 - morning math/meeting
8:15-9:00 - science/s.s.
9:00 - 9:10 - snack
9:10 - 10:10- reading (ability-grouped)
10:15-10:55- activity
11:00-11:30 - lunch
bathroom break
11:40-12:40 - math
12:40-1:25 - reading (whole class)
1:25-2:10 - language arts
2:10 - pack up, tickets, read aloud
2:30 - dismissal

I would PREFER to have activity in the afternoon so I could get most of our academics in the morning, but my schedule doesn't usually work out that way.

I knew something was missing! Yes, we do have recess - from 1:40-2:00. I knew my reading/language arts time didn't seem right, but I couldn't remember what went there! I basically do reading/language arts from 12:40-2:10, minus the recess interruption.

My kids would sure never let me forget recess!

frustrating!

I find it so frustrating trying to fit everything in. A previous poster mentioned that she's required to do a 90 minute reading block, as I will be next year. That's fine with me, since I've already been doing a 90 minute reading block, but the frustration comes in with the fact that the principal has given us exactly ninety minutes from the minute the morning bell rings to when our kids are due at specials. That doesn't allow room for morning meeting, snack, or transitions. I'd rather use a big block of time in the afternoon to do reading, but she's mandated it HAS to happen in the morning, even though she's not really giving us enough time to do it right. It's maddening.
