Reader's Theater plays with 2 characters

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I am looking for Reader's Theater scripts with 2 characters at a late 1st grade to early 2nd grade level--around levels I-K.

I am currently homeschooling my first grader who is a good, but reluctant reader. She loves hearing books and is good at reading, but hates reading outloud to me. I let her read silently some, but there are definitely times I need her reading outloud. Anyway, we just started doing Reader's Theater and she loves it. Particularly funny ones. But, because I'm not in a classroom, I need scripts with only 2 roles. A small 3rd role would be ok too b/c one of us could take the third role. One character needs to be at a level I-K (she is a level J or so), and the other one can be any level (me!). It seems like most of the ones I find in books on Amazon or TPT have 4+ characters. We could make it work if we had to, but I'd love to find some adapted to 2 or 3 people.

Thanks!

Try looking up “partner reading” on TPT. I found several searching that way.

Set of Books

There is a set of books called:
You Read to Me, I'll Read to You: Very Short Stories to Read Together
You Read to Me, I'll Read to You: Very Short Fables to Read Together
You Read to Me, I'll Read to You: Very Short Fairy Tales to Read Together
You Read to Me, I'll Read to You: Very Short Scary Tales to Read Together

On one page, the first reader reads aloud. On the next page, the second reader reads aloud. Perhaps your public library has them. If not, perhaps they can borrow them from another library.

I second these books. I often use them for fluency practice with students. They are fun and engaging. The kids really love them.

You can also try many of the Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Willems. They are fantastic to use with reluctant readers.
