Now our system is requiring that each second grade class read the same read-aloud books each week, emphasizing the same vocabulary words, and asking the same exact questions to the students during the text. The same thing is happening in K and 1. This is in addition to a very itemized scope and sequence for guided reading. Is anyone else in this position?

I'm so sorry to hear that. I wouldn't be able to teach in that environment. Hopefully, the admin will see after awhile that it's not realistic/best practice to teach that way. Good luck!

It minimizes planning? You can always shut the door and do what you want, right? Who is going to know? Prep like you're doing what they want, read what you want.
