My boys are bilingual and have gone/go to a non-English speaking school, so sometimes their English vocabulary is a tiny bit lacking. Last night I was talking to my 16 year old and for some reason the word vibrant came up.

Son- what does vibrant mean?

Me- like 4k

Son- oh!!!! Why in the world did they come up with that word when they could have just called it 4K?

Me: because I think the word vibrant is older than the word/term 4K

Son: Really?

Btw- I think they will both have an excellent vocabulary in both languages, because of the way they always ask what a word means if they don’t know. They aren’t self conscious at all about it at all. I ❤️ that.

I’m a huge fan of multilingual, but I think I’m too old for 4k. I googled and found:

"4K" refers to horizontal resolutions of around 4,000 pixels. The "K" stands for "kilo" (thousand). As things stand, the majority of 4K displays come with 3840 x 2160 pixel (4K UHDTV) resolution, which is exactly four times the pixel count of full HD displays (1920 x 1080 pixels).

Is that trendy slang for vibrant? I looked in Urban Dictionary but it gave other meanings (that don’t seem to apply).

Also- my son recently had a tooth extracted and had iv sedation. While in his stoned state he was so impressed that the world was in 4K.

Easiest way to explain to him so he understood.

I have to brush up on today's language, because like amiga I did not know what 4k meant. To me it means 4 km (as in running), or 4000 units (metric system).

I looked up 4k in the urban dictionary, and found yet another definition definition:

4k means 4,000 dollars. It also means when you catch someone doing some pretty gross stuff.

And this: "caught in 4k"

is a slang expression meaning that a person who committed an an act that is illegal or frowned-upon got caught on social media, with screenshots containing the evidence being available.

It looks like I have a lot of new vocabulary to learn.

Yes, I agree that is not a synonym that I would have first thought of. However, after some thought I would have to agree. When we were shopping for our last tv the 4K channel demo definitely sold us on a 4k model. There is a YouTube channel that has absolutely breathtaking 4k footage. Yep, that would be vibrant.
