I am leaving my school district after 12 years. I have my first interview next week. I am a little nervous - it has been so long since I have done this - any words of wisdom?

TIA!!!!

A lot of times they like to ask about specific experiences, such as "Tell me how you differentiate for reading". Think of specific strategies and lessons you do in your classroom ahead of time, so you are prepared for these types of questions. Hot topics are usually differentiation, accommodating for special needs students, parent communication, technology integration.

Good luck- hope it goes well!

I sat on an interview panel today. The candidates with the higher scores were able to describe how they differentiate for reading and math. They had a solid discipline plan that followed a specific protocol. They were able to answer questions about integrating technology, and accommodating students IEPs and behavioral plans. The question that made the biggest difference was about dealing with parents (communicating, dealing with complaints, and getting parents more involved). Some things that really hurt a few people was not knowing about the school, inability to speak on strengths and weaknesses. One said she had no weaknesses. Even if you believe it you should not say it out loud.
Good luck

I recently interviewed and the questions were exactly as essence stated... exactly. I got the job and was told it was because of the reasons that she also mentioned. Good luck! You'll do great!

I interviewed after 9 yrs and although the first interview was a little shaky by my 4th interview I landed the job! Good luck! Keep in my mind they LOVE experienced teachers!! I was the top candidate in a 2 school interview and got a job at the top ranked school in the area... The job landed in my lap and the assistant super and principal were so excited to hire me...

Perhaps go on an interview that you know you won't take in order to practice the interview!

I was asked how I did cross-curriculum with reading and science/social studies.

The first question was "tell us about yourself."

Don't forget to have a question or two to ask them at the end as they will ask if you have any questions.
