I got a ticket and Iím ticked!!!

Went into the city yesterday to have tea with a friend. Came to find a ticket on windshield. It was for parking during street sweeping. Look very closely at picture. It was taken from the front of my car. If you look waaay down the street, almost to the corner, you can sort of see the sign, somewhat obscured by tree branches.

There was another sign behind me, same distance away, completely obscured by heavy tree foliage. Thinking of fighting this one.

You should fight that ticket . The chances of winning are pretty good. How smart of you to take a picture.

I think it is worth fighting. What have you got to lose?

You might start by finding the city ordinance about parking signs. Good luck.

I'm ticked for you!

I did actually try to fight a ticket in a situation like that. I had pictures much like yours. What ended up happening was the judge basically saying "you showed me the pictures, it was posted, you have no case." The pictures I showed him were heavily obscured by foliage and very hard to read, but he didn't seem to care.

Definitely fight it. Show them the photo and take close-up photos of the signs with the foliage. It also looks like the street hasn't been swept.

ETA: GraceKrispy, that's terrible. I'm sorry about that.
About 10 years ago I fought a ticket, and so did my entire street. We had all been ticketed because we were supposedly blocking the street sweeper. The funny thing is that the street sweeper had been in my street perhaps twice since I moved here 40+ years ago, and there were no signs. We always sweep our own section of the street. The judge laughed and dismissed it.

Iím sure a lot is dependent on what judge you get but DH & DS successfully fought tickets that had the same issue. Donít pay it without trying at least.

My daughter was in a similar situation with signs posted two blocks away and not visible from where she had parked. Her car was towed and she had to pay three hundred dollars to retrieve it. It's a good source of revenue for the city.

In traffic court a lot depends on the judge. Iíve watched a few clips on YouTube of Caught in Providence. I believe heíd let you off.

But, consider if you have to take time out of school, and if you lose are there added court costs. How much will fighting it actually cost if you lose?

I do think fighting on principle is worth it, but sometimes you have to consider cost too.

There are a lot of cars parked on the street. Did they ticket them all?

ďThere are a lot of cars parked on the street.Ē No they didnít get ticketed. And the interesting thing is, I had to drive around a bit to find parking. This street was not empty when I parked at noon. It was the only space available. Street sweeping is from noon til 2:00. I came back about 2:30.

I think the parking authority did not recognize my license plate as someone belonging to the neighborhood. Just a WAG. And the street did not look like it had been swept.

If the other cars were not ticketed, I'd try fighting it in court. It sounds like the parking equivalent of a speed trap.

It definitely depends on the judge! If you do fight it, I hope you're successful.

I've only gotten 2 tickets in my life, and I also fought the other ticket with a written response (it was an option at that time). I still had to pay the ticket, but it was a reduced amount. The time to write the letter was worth it Definitely more than the time I spent away from work, sitting in a courtroom, fighting a ticket that didn't get reduced at all (and had to be paid right then and there).
