I am teaching long division. How do I make the division sign on the computer? I can use the end parenthese sign for part of it. How do I make a line above the rest of the problem?

Not sure how to do it like you want but here is how you make the division symbol.

To insert a division symbol, hold down the ALT key and type 0247. Then release the ALT key. Note: You must use the numeric keypad, not the numbers on the top row of your keyboard.

Thanks...I tried that. Gives me the other divided by sign. I want the one where when the kids see it, they can do the long division right then. Kind of looks like the square root sign.

I haven't figured out how to do it. Can you use the snipping tool and snip sample problems from a worksheet from the Internet?

I just draw a line down and across to make the sign on the computer.

I would insert a table and then make the bottom and right side of the cell invisible, leaving the left side and top line visible. Type the dividend in one cell and the divisor in the other.

I just had to do this last week. I found a division sign I like on the internet and copied it to my document. Then I made a text box underneath and in front for the numbers. I make the text box invisible and put in my numbers. I think I was able to copy both boxes and the sign together.

Are you trying to do this ÷?

All you need to do is copy and paste the one from this page into your document.

You are trying to do the traditional long division sign in word you go to Insert (in the ribbon)>then equation editor the closest they have is a square root/radical sign.

You could also google "long division sign" copy the image to your word document, send it to the back and then type in front of it the numbers you want to use.

Or you could just print it out, hand draw it and scan it back in the computer.

But when I did it in fourth grade, I would type multiple underlines, and then on the line below the underlines I would use an end parenthesis.

Division sign is easy to write in Word and Excel. Choose insert then look for symbols on right hand side. There are many, many symbols to choose from so look for "more symbols" if you don't see it immediately.
