Let's have some fun and be positive. What was your favorite toy as a child?
I loved stuffed animals. I lined those suckers up for so many school lessons with me as the teacher that they would have been working on their doctorates by now!
My aunt gave me a stuffed St. Bernard dog. That was my friend forever. I still have my special dog. In times of overwhelming sadness or stress, I still pull that dog out for comfort.
But I also had other favorite toys: my Barbies, my Fisher Price house
I almost bought an old Fisher Price house for my granddaughters, but it didn’t include Fisher Price people, dog or the car so it wouldn’t be as much fun.
Definitely my Fisher Price Little People! Back then, they were made of wood! I had the furniture, but not the other accessories (house, barn...). I would create my own rooms on our coffee table. I LOVED the little toilet!
I would use my mom's empty large coffee can for a swimming pool for my Little People. HOURS of fun! I still have all of them today, along with other accessories (house, barn, airport, etc.) I bought for my kids when they were young.
Hoping my grandkids will get to play with them someday!
Mine was Barbie- one of the first years she existed.
In my family, we only got toys on Christmas or birthdays. Barbie was popular among my friends, but for an entire summer, when my friends played Barbie, I would have to use my big Baby doll (Tiny Tears).
Three days before my birthday, my little sister was born, and mom came home from the hospital on my birthday. This left my dad to pick out and wrap my gift.
When Mom got home, we had cake (baked by my aunt) and opened my gift. I was so excited to see then arrow box - I just knew it would be my blond pony-tailed Barbie. When I opened it, it wasa red-haired bubble haircut Barbie. (I was secretly a little disappointed).
When I asked my dad, years later, why he picked that one, he replied, "I thought that doll was the most beautiful. She looks like your (red-haired) mother".
I still have Barbie, and she reminds me not only of many happy hours playing, but also of my mom!
Is a bike a toy? My bike was definitely my favorite possession because I was quite the tomboy and played outside with a gang of kids during daylight hours. My bike was fun and freedom.

In second grade for Christmas (and used for a long time after) a 2 sided-chalkboard on a stand that I believe sowed the seeds to becoming a teacher. I lined up stuffed animals, dolls and my real brother and sister as students. Hours of fun!
How did I end up a teacher? I loved my doctor’s kit when I was five or six. I also loved building with Lincoln Logs, Tinker Toys, and Legos (not all together ).
I had a construction set with plastic panels and girders that I spent hours creating buildings.
At Christmas time we had little candles shaped like choir boys, angels, Christmas trees, Santa. I'd put on Christmas music and arrange them into stage sets for each song. I think they were 10 cents each back then. https://www.vermontcountrystore.com/.../product/67680
Barbie...I had the red haired bubble one, too.
Does this count ..... my aunts gave my sister and I their old prom dresses and fancy dresses. We played dress up ad infinitum. We had hats, scarves, heels. So much fun.
I had a Skipper doll. My mom didn't like Barbies because she thought they gave a wrong impression of what women's bodies looked like. She was thrilled when Skipper, Barbie's young sister, dolls came out. This was in the late 60s. I also had a Barbie Dream House that my Skipper doll lived in. My BFF and I played for hours with our Skippers.
My baby doll that I named Suzie. My favorite toy for years. Later my bridal Barbie and Ken. I made them clothes from fabric scraps.
My favorite board game was Monopoly.
In Jr High school my foster sisters parents had a two seater bicycle. We rode around on that bike for hours and hours. I wish I had a photo.
I loved my Cabbage Patch dolls and my Lite Brite. I also remember playing cards for hours on end with my grandmother who was a card sharp. I still play cards with my parents.
I had tons of stuffed animals. My brother had a Star Wars collection and I had a Strawberry Shortcake collection.
I was mostly an outdoor girl, riding my bike and playing sandlot baseball. I did, however, love paper dolls! All kinds. Families, weddings, Natalie Wood, Jackie Kennedy, historic costumes! I loved cutting out the clothes, dressing them, and then creating little stories for them. Mostly I played alone. We had more boys than girls in my neighborhood, and my sisters weren't that interested. I think paper dolls have mostly died out as a childhood pastime, but 29 cents and a trip to Woolworth's kept me happy for a month! Loved getting new paper dolls!
I know they aren't technically toys, but books were my joy when I was little. My first experience was a record player with records that came with books. It would beep when it was time to turn the page. My parents subscribed to a book of the month series for me twice and I just cherished those books. I finally got rid of them but kept one from each series for the memories.
I had a beloved doll named Patty. She was my size and my “best friend” as a smal child. She was a lot like a Patti Playpal doll, but she was older than that. I’m not sure what she was actually called as I got her second hand .
I kept her out for many years until my grandsons were born and started using her to frighten the others. Styles of dolls have changed and they told me she was creepy. She is now packed away in storage. I can’t get rid of her yet.
Tctrojan: I had a Tippy Toes too! I loved that doll. I recently looked it up to see if it looked like I remembered. I remember her pushing her horse around.
My favorite toy has to be Barbie and Ken et all. I had doll furniture that the local nursing home made and I put it in a bookcase for their house. I played for hours!
My best gift was the Easy Bake oven. I loved to bake back then, and I love to bake today. It wasn’t actually an Easy Bake, it was the generic version called Susie Homemaker but it still worked. Those little brownies were the best!

Nancy Drew books were to me. Also loved my Easy Bake Oven and baking those brownies and cookies!
My baby dolls (my favorite was named Marcy) and my stuffed lamb. I would set up a play school and my brother would set up a stuffed animal hospital. I did become a teacher and hedid become a vet!
We also played for hours with wooden blocks and set ip a whole town in the basement that we populated with paper dolls cut from the Sears and Penneys catalogs.
My Barbie story is that my parents gave me a Barbie dream house for Christmas but I only had one Barbie, Rainbow Barbie. I wanted a family for the house so I married her to my brother's Face (from the A Team) action figure, they had little orphan Annie for a child and drove around in Alvin and the Chipmunks' van
I did also have Donnie and Marie Osmond dolls for some reason but they didn't live in the Barbie house
I had a little stuffed animal Dalmatian that I carried everywhere. I loved that thing. Back in the day, you could bring toys to school. I brought him to Kindergarten every day and wrote in my journal, "I love Stop." (Spot). These days, I'd be put in an intervention group for that! Lack of phonemic awareness . And the other funny part is that I'm a cat lady through and through. I'm not sure why it was a stuffed dog I loved so much.
I was thrilled to get a Cabbage Patch doll for my 9th birthday. I had a few Barbies, I also remember being thrilled to get Peach Blossom Barbie--she wore a swirly peach colored gown with a matching stole and I thought she was gorgeous.
My best friend had the best board games, I remember sitting in her bedroom and playing Boggle or Othello all afternoon.
Truthfully, though, once I was 7 or 8 I turned into a book worm and that's what I spent most of my free time on.
I loved my stuffed animals, too. I'd line them up and pretend I was the veterinarian (although I never wanted to be a vet!). I remember having a hard spelling stomach ache on the little tablet (that looked like a waitress's tablet) that apparently vets are supposed to write the symptoms on !
I loved my Barbies and the clothes my grandmom & mom made. I don't think I ever had a purchased Barbie outfit.
I also loved my baby dolls and the crib my dad made us. He also made us an ironing board.
I too loved my Nancy Drew books. They were my mom's and I read them all over & over. They were blue hardboard with yellowed/tan pages. The pages were brittle. They also had an explaination about the WWII and the printing.
Ima Teacher, I always wanted one of those kitchen sets when I was a kid and never got one. When my daughter was three, I got her one for Christmas. I was so excited about it, but she hardly played with it. When her baby brother was big enough though, he played with it a lot. It's funny that now she loves to cook!
I don't feel like we had hundreds of toys like kids today have and because of that I spend a ton of time playing with all of them!
Paper Dolls someone mentioned. I loved them, too!
I had a Baby Alive, I think she was called. Tons of time dragging her around, playing momma.
I had a small little cupboard that I used as a cabinet and stove for my tea party stuff. I drew burners on with chalk so I could heat things up. I played with that forever!
Barbies also, but I only had a couple. I had to steal my brother's GI joe for companionship. I had a tent for mine and we went camping.
My bike was a tool to get to the neighbors house-which was miles away!
We lived on a farm next to woods and a small creek. All of these things played out there with me, too. Weekends and summers we spent outside. Cardboard boxes were big props to help outside.
