They were predicting a chance of snow here in West Tennessee earlier, but I haven't seen one snowflake! It's just cold. My virtual class starts in 13 minutes, so back to work I go!

Mrs.Lilbit, It was worth taking a few minutes off for your PT break!
I was thinking some might be working right now, but, as I suspected, it's not too hard to access PT if you're doing virtual teaching.

--------
But wait! There's more!

We now return to our regularly scheduled program!

-------
And next, ladies and gentlemen, we turn our attention to the marvelous and prolific TEACHNKIDS who worked TIRELESSLY to add THREE final posts to Page One of the ProTeacher.net "Teachers Lounge THREADKILLER thread"!!! Yes!! Go ahead and give it up forrrrrr TEACHNKIDS!!!! We proudly bestow this BEAUTIFULLY detailed, solid GOLD trophy to Teachnkids for that INCREDIBLE feat of creative word wizardry!!! **The crowds continue to cheer and applaud in amazement**

And, of course, our THIRD ProTeacher award recipient, MRSSSS.LILLLLBIT!!! (**The crowds interrupt to renew their cheers and roars of approval!!**) She now carries the honorable distinction of being the FIRST to start PAGE 2 of our ProTeacher.net "Teachers Lounge THREADKILLER thread!! We proudly award this OVERSIZED SOLID GOLD, PERSONALIZED MEDAL delicately trimmed with HAND WOVEN blue ribbon!!! SHEEEE was the one who STARTED PAGE TWO!! She accomplished a goal that so many others had secretly hoped to achieve! (**More cheers and applause!**) Her steadfast courage to risk those few moments during her break led her to this unique and enviable accomplishment!!!

Not that I’d expect it, but maybe you were able to have a drink on our behalf! (We weren’t serving drinks at our festivities... It was during school hours, here. )

Nice baskets, teachnkids! I like baskets for organizing.

I agree, kahluablast. Little things like this can bring great joy and are helpful in relieving stress. We need this!

Well, then, by all means! Let's see if we can get to the bottom of this thread by the FIRST Anniversary of THE THREAD KILLER!!

** Hmmm... Maybe you haven't seen it, but the very fine print says you all need to keep coming back to post now and then so we can get to the bottom of this thread by April!

How do you all pronounce “route”? Or does it vary depending on context? I definitely say “root” in Route 66, and I think I generally say “rout” otherwise, like newspaper route or “Let’s take the scenic route.” Now why is that, why use a different pronunciation? Did people used to always pronounce it “root” and so “Root” 66 is a holdover?

Hmmm.......

No Risa, that isn’t what I was dreaming about. These are fresh thoughts, just percolated!

Hmmm... Let me think... How do I pronounce "route"? I switch pronunciation based on context.
"Route 66" is 'root 66'. (I think it's because of the influence of the song by Nat King Cole..."Get your kicks on Route 66.")
Years ago my brother delivered newspapers on his "paper route" where we pronounced it 'paper rout'?
So, yes, I pronounce it according to context.

I think I tend to say 'root' more often than 'rout'.

Here are more words to consider... How do you pronounce...

caramel?

jewelry?

often?

(ONLY 119 (or so) more posts needed before this thread goes to page 3! I'm going to have to think up more 'content' for 'enquiring minds'!)

Those are tough ones!

I think I say:

car uh mull but the second syllable is barely there

jool ree

off ‘n

Or at least that’s as close as I can type the phonetics!

Oh, this post is purely for the purpose of proving that I can so post something if I prefer to. There’s no profanity, nothing purposely provocative; just a little (at first, unintentional) alliteration and a little backlash against so many posts from a few people lately who seem to be trying to control how others “post or don’t post”. If I want to say something I should be allowed to. And you know what, if someone doesn’t like it, they can scroll on by ME!

Sometimes I get that feeling, too. And what's worse, for me, is that it often, but not always, seems to come out of no where. I don't know what that would be officially called, but depending on how strong that feeling is, I call that feeling anxious... anxiety. Yet... if it's a very mild feeling, I guess that could just be called 'uneasiness'. Oh well, whatever it's called, it's not very fun...
---
Oh! I was just going to say you were 'sleepless' but that would mean you haven't had sleep, right?

Is there a word stemming from 'sleep' when you can't sleep? I'm wondering what that would be called? (Besides insomnia...)

I hope you were finally able to sleep and get some rest!

It's not restful sleep and I wake up feeling unrested. Uggghhh!

Thanks for not belittling me and mocking me for saying car uh mull instead of care uh mel. In the spirit of unity I will give care uh mel a try!

I kept waking up in the night, and after one particular time it took me ages to fall asleep again. Then I overslept and now I’m behind on my day. Well, since I’m retired I guess it’s okay. But I still don’t like it!

I’ve been having long vivid dreams this week. Last night I dreamed that I went to shop for a few things and was met at the door by a line of employees blocking my way. Behind them I could see boxes upon boxes on pallets beyond pallets, wrapped or being wrapped in plastic. I said to the closest one blocking me, with a smile on my face, “What’s happening? Are you closing?” And she squirted me in the face from a bottle she was holding! When I sputtered and said, “I just want to know what’s going on!” they moved closer together and the one said, “Mind your own business!”

Sooooo, I know what I think prompted that dream, but I’m curious if anyone else sees the same thing.

Dream analysis-Worth what you paid!

I'm a fan of analyzing dreams. One of the things I've learned is that what we see in our dreams is not necessarily representing the actual physical thing in our lives. Much of what I found in my dreams was a symbolic representation and not a literal one. It's also good to talk things over with someone else who knows you because they might bring up things you hadn't considered.

As I read your description these are some thoughts that occurred to me:
"Line of employees blocking my way... Behind them I could see boxes upon boxes..."- There may be people or huge things you feel are blocking you from something you want to get to. Right now, I have the TV on with the news on in the background, so I also thought maybe it represents that there are a lot of barricades between you and the Covid vaccine? (Or may some other issue you've been contemplating?)

When you say 'What's happening?' it may be that you aren't aware that you are being kept away or you may not know what it is that's being blocked from you.

When you get water squirted in your face it could represent you're being told not to be so concerned about it or maybe it's just a harmless attempt to distract you from thinking about it.

Soooooo... Am I totally and completely waaaaay off base, here? When I look at my own dreams I often am! But there are also times when I can easily figure out what the symbolism represents.

Wow, that was really interesting, Risa!

I may have been taking it way too literally—I saw it as a carry over from being fed up with people here seemingly trying to keep me from posting.

Thanks for your thoughts! I especially was intrigued by the explanation of my being squirted.

I've read that it's important that the person who had the dream always needs to think about what has been going on in their lives to see how those symbols might relate to their actual lives, so maybe what you were thinking about posting actually is related.

I became more aware of my dreams and how they sometimes held answers for me when I was seeing a counselor many years ago. On her recommendation, I kept a dream journal and we'd sometimes discuss them. I had several dreams that seemed to lead me toward some answers for decisions I had to make.

I recall that we analyzed one dream that I originally thought was just a bunch of non-sense. I was trudging through green snow toward some far-away office or building. In the dream my vice-principal (at that time) was waving me on, smiling and encouraging me to go ahead. When my counselor and I analyzed that dream she suggested that the 'green snow' represented a positive sign that I should apply for a transfer to start at a new school that was opening up the following year. Trudging through the snow (which we never get here) represented it might not be an easy to achieve. Long story short, I did apply, and there was a long hard process to get in. A core of 8 teachers started this new school that I called 'The happiest place on Earth'. (Sadly, after 5 years, our principal left to finish her doctorate and many of us left the school when a new 'tyrant principal' came in and completely undermined all we had done.)

Hey! Maybe we can spend the next 50 posts analyzing dreams! Haha! We'll can get REAL creative and invent lots of really wacky interpretations. ...or not!

Yes, we could easily do 50 posts on dreams.

I expect teachnkids to report hers soon for your analysis.

But why? I don't know why.

Not much to watch on TV.
Read through posts on 'My Favorite' PT boards.
Tried reading my bookmarked sites but feeling impatient to read them. Just skimmed the highlights or the headlines.
Went to the online games I bookmarked, but... eh... just not in the mood for games.

Trying to think of a question to ask for whenever someone else decides see how the Thread Killer thread is moving along...
... OR MAYBE... just maybe I'LL be the LAST person to post on this thread and I'll have the very dubious honor of being THE THREAD KILLER!

Ok. So... Where was I? Oh! My question for the next Thread Killer visitor...

What do you do when you're bored and nothing seems to hold your interest?

Back to dreams.....

Last night I dreamed that I was a substitute teacher in a middle school. I was super late because the hotel desk clerk have me wrong directions! Then the plans were weak, at best. I had a lunch break and walked around campus. It was lovely. Many outdoor seating areas for lunch. After lunch I was lost and couldn't find my way back to class. No matter who I asked I was in the wrong spot. Over & over again! Finally got back to class and teacher across the hall was keeping an eye on them. She was so nice. I remember commenting how "normal" the kids were, compared to the ones I taught. Name of the school was one of our local MS.

Go ahead...analyze that craziness!

Risa has the credentials to analyze your dream, so I look forward to her comments. To me, it sounds like a nightmare that makes me glad to be retired. I think you like your current job and don’t want to go back to your previous job,

Risa, you left me here unanswered for 102 hours and 20 minutes! I was sure I was the winner, wait—the loser...no, that would make me the winner, I think.......

Tctrojan, what have you been reading—anything good? I’m not reading much any more. But I just finished Seinfeld’s new book, which was good for some much-needed laughs, and now I’m reading The Lost Spells, which has some pretty language and beautiful illustrations.

My new favorite genre is Cozy Mystery. Easy reads with usually a murder, not too gruesome, little to no foul language ( on series used the F word), little romance in some bit not heavy smut.

We all need healthy activities to help fill the extra hours we have during the pandemic. Reading is a great one! I wish I could do more. But at least I have other healthy things I am able and motivated to do every day.

I used to read a lot of cozies. One series in particular was a cooking themed one. I hate to cook but I enjoyed reading her recipes and the descriptions of the food.

I sure don’t want any drama in what I read, listen to, or watch. I prefer light and uplifting, and enjoy interactions with nice people. So keep this thread going!

Okay, let's see how I do with this one... 'research' is basically according to various sites,
Substitute Teacher
Quote:
(from dreammoods.com) If you are a teacher in real life, then the dream is just a reflection of who you are and is about your work.
super late
Quote:
(from dreammoods.com) To dream that you are late signifies your fear of change and your ambivalence about seizing an opportunity. You may feel unready, unworthy, or unsupported in your current circumstances. Additionally, you may be overwhelmed or conflicted with decisions about your future. Time is running out and you no longer have time to accomplish all the things you want. Alternatively, being late in your dream could be telling you that it is better late than never.
super late (from https://littlethings.com/entertainme...mean/3496146-9)
Quote:
Dream Symbol 9: Being Late-Dream interpreter Michael R. Olsen explains that a dream about being late can represent fear of missing an opportunity or of making promises you can't keep.
couldn't find my way back to class-
Quote:
(According to https://www.learning-mind.com/dreams...t-meaning/)You can’t find your way home
This is a similar dream of losing your way. You are lost in this dream and you panic because you can’t find your way home. Even more frightening is that the environment you are in is unfamiliar and scary to you. You are too frightened to ask for directions.
All you want to do is be back in your home, but you have no idea where you are or how you got there. This dream is about facing up to making a difficult decision in your life. You might have two choices; one is a familiar route, the other is a little scary. In your mind, you know you should choose the scary route. Nonetheless, it will be a challenge, but you must make yourself to go for it. Your subconscious mind is telling you to make a decision. Explore the situation, the facts surrounding the decision and make an informed choice. Have you been offered a promotion away from home and family? Are you thinking about a whole different career change? It is time to weigh up your options, but do make that choice.
Quote:
Even more frightening is that the environment you are in is unfamiliar and scary to you.
This part of the interpretation doesn't fit with your dream since you said "It was lovely. Many outdoor seating areas for lunch." So maybe, if this interpretation has meaning for you, it could be telling you that you're not uncomfortable with being challenged or with having to make a decision.

teacher across the hall was keeping an eye on them
Quote:
Babysitter-To dream of a babysitter represents your feelings about looking after someone else's problem. You may feel bored with your life or held back due to someone else's problems. Making sure someone dumber or more arrogant than you doesn't make matters worse. Keeping a close eye on someone you feel is risky.Negatively, a babysitter may reflect responsibility or problems that you feel has been dumped on to you. Feeling that you have to protect or look after someone that is vulnerable because nobody else will. Alternatively, a babysitter may reflect your feeling about being overwhelmed by other people's arrogant or childish behavior...Additionally, babysitting in a dream may reflect your feelings about raising your children in waking life if you have any. Feeling that having to raise children holds you back in some way.
Of course, you need to think of how this might (or might not) fit you. Sooooo.... Whad'dya think, teachnkids? Does anything here hit home?

HUH?? Whad'dya talkin' about??? 102 HOURS??? That would be around 4 days plus a few more hours.

My post ---9:30 PM to midnight (1/18/21)--- 02.5 hours (my last post)
Your post 11:56AM-noon (1/19/21)--------+ 12.0 more hours
(According to me, tho' I may be wrong!)…..…14 hours total

I only left you hangin' for 14 hours... But... pssst! *whispering* I'm actually not all that secure with my math skills What did I miss?

Now, as for not replying to to teachnkids dream or to your post ... I read them, but I didn't want to reply until I had time to search out dream sites, then copy and paste all the info, AND to figure out how many hours it has been between our two posts...

I was glad to see you're doing your part to move this thread closer to Page 3!

But how do you 'ignore' someone? I didn't know that was possible. I noticed it mentioned in a few other posts, lately.

Was it posted somewhere? I always seem to be missing quite a few posts. I guess I don't read through the pages carefully enough.

Oh well... We only need about 90 more posts to get to the next page!

I think your math was correct, on that math problem. I was referring to post 196 and 197. From when I posted (196) to when you posted (197) was 4 days+. Unless my math is wrong. Apparently I’m wrong at PT an awful lot.

Look at us posting at the same time!

“Oops, sorry—you first.”

“No really, after you.”

Ah, the ignore...you can find it on your “My desk” page (which you can get to via the silhouette person button, next to the house button at the top left). When you’re on “My desk”, look down the left hand side until you see “ignore”. When you select that, you can then enter the names of the posters you want to ignore. It doesn’t totally block them (darn) but it does hide their posts when you read the boards.

Oh, and from what I can tell, you read very carefully! And the research you did on teachnkids’ dream had to have taken quite a bit of time! Thank you for being so thorough.

So I THOUGHT I was off to explore the 'ignore' button, but I remembered that I forgot to ask... What did you teach?

Not that you asked... but... I seem to be in 'full confession' mode. I taught 4th grade in an inner city school. I was placed in that grade against my will, because the other teachers with seniority wanted to get out of a 'testing grade' and I had only been at that school a couple years. I didn't mind the grade at all, but I didn't like being used just to keep the other teachers from squawking! As you might guess, I didn't want to be in a testing grade, either. Actually, I was happy teaching 4th for several years before transferring to that school. All the obsessiveness with test scores had us all tied up in knots. So, I ended up in that grade for the next 10 years! I actually enjoyed that age and I was one of those crazies who LOVED teaching. What led me to retirement were (1) the stressful hour-long commute that started getting longer with more long-distance commuters hitting the road and (2) the 'never-ending' meetings and fumbling over how to raise test scores with limited English, low-income community. Loved the people, loved the kids, but HATED the testing obsession. Still love following my teacher friends and helping them out, especially with all they have to do for virtual teaching.

( I started writing, then got distracted. When I came back to my computer, I didn't realize I hadn't finished... silly me! )

Okay...

I know, this is exciting! But mostly I think this has become like “chat” for me because I can’t really do “chat”—because I’m on an iPad.

So thanks for chatting with me and making me laugh! And yes, maybe others will join in.

To answer your question, I taught elementary—everything from k-6th including some years with multi-age, some splits, and some loops. But my favorite grades, and luckily, where I spent the most time, were second and third. I retired because of the increasing paperwork and other additional requirements, with nothing ever being removed from the work load. It was a great career and I’m extremely grateful for the wonderful retirement benefits that teaching gives us, but I’m so glad to be done!

Tah!

Yes, this is becoming our chat room for all the world to see!

So continuing with the teaching background... I didn’t mention all the stuff that went before... I worked at 6 different sites within the same district. Oh! And 2 others in a different district when I started as an instructional aide and my first year of teaching. When I’d see friends from the previous schools at district meetings, they’d ask, “Where are you, now?” So I’d tell them and add, “You can’t hit a moving target!”

I was part of a 3 year grant as a district consultant for our ELL program. That’s when I realized how much I missed teaching so I was glad to be back with students in middle school after the 3 years away.

Loved middle school!

I went on and on so I decided to divide it into MORE posts. (Still aiming for the big 3-0-0! )
Quote:
I retired because of the increasing paperwork and other additional requirements, with nothing ever being removed from the work load.
EXACTLY! More and more requirements to teach our ‘little robots’. At first I was one of ‘those’ at the meetings protesting all the ‘garbage’ and talking about how we were neglecting ‘the whole child’ and ‘Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.’ It all fell on deaf ears, so eventually I stopped challenging the system and went along with all of the sheep who learned to obey orders. *sigh*

By the way, I taught 2nd and 3rd in my early years when I first moved to this district. Made several life-long friends at that school. A large group of retirees started meeting for lunch the past few years, but again, Covid came along and shut it down.

I was in middle school for 7 years where I taught 6th and worked out of the classroom as a program coordinator. I had an opportunity to create what they called an “innovative teaching program” for 2nd language learners. Since I really missed the direct interaction with students, I went back to the classroom and taught my program with students in Gr 5-8 all together. (Our schools are TK-4, 5-8, 9-12) I was pleased to learn that my program continued for many more years after I left. A gazillion years later, we still have (or had, until Covid) monthly dinners with 10 of those teachers. (Actually, most moved on to other positions, not that it matters, here.) This group got me thru the loneliest days of Covid isolation so I’m eternally grateful for them.

Going loopy!

As much as I enjoyed middle school, I did not enjoy the new principal who seemed to only care about sports and looking good to the District administrators.
I had an opportunity to follow my friend to her new school when she became a principal. I looped with grades 3 and 4 for 5 years.

Build it up, tear it down

When a brand new school was opening up, I was selected to start with a core of teachers who then interviewed for the rest of our teachers. It was great to be able to establish our school philosophy, our staff, recess/lunch schedules and purchase all the equipment our school would need. We even got to decide what colors our buildings should be painted.

We had multi-age classes and looped with our students. (This would be very hard to do in today’s climate where each student must be taught his/her grade level standards.) Sadly, my ‘happiest place on Earth’ fell apart when my principal left to finish her doctorate and was replaced by a ‘test scores only’ tyrant principal. I was heartbroken, but I couldn’t stay and watch her tear apart all we had established brick by brick.

Traditional... blah!
Old 01-23-2021, 11:51 AM

Two hundred twenty-five posts! 75 more to go!

I accept that challenge!

I transferred to another more traditional school, which ‘took some getting used to.’
Sadly, the entire focus became test scores, then eventually common core standards. That meant I couldn’t move to schools that were receiving grants or starting innovative projects. If there were, they concerned raising test scores. So I stayed teaching grades 3 and 4 at my most recent school longer than at any other school. There were ups and downs but interestingly enough I only have maintained contact with my former teaching team. Stayed there the longest but not many lasting connections with the people.

Ok! That was my whole resume! Am I hired??!!??

Oh, FYI, I had a cat hair stuck in my left eye and I couldn’t get it out for a loooong time. It was so irritating! But now I can see again....

I thought that was worth mentioning in a separate post, so as not to confuse the topics.

I'm jumping in just to say hi. Very cold here today, under 25 with a nasty wind chill. Maybe snow Monday into Tuesday. Stayed inside and did school work, finished a puzzle and am making cookies later!

OHHHH!!! That would definitely be annoying! I can't even imagine how bad that must have felt! It's those little things that happen (to those of us who live alone) when we wish we had someone there to help us out!

So I'm guessing you had to blink it out??!? It would be hard to try to look in the mirror to find it, since both eyes would probably automatically want to close...

Ooooh! We get hysterical in my part of California when the temps get down to the 40's-50's! Well, actually, we don't often get into those low 40's, now that I think of it... I can't even imagine what would we would do if we got under 25 degrees!

Come on back and 'sit a spell' when you finish your puzzle and baking! Fresh baked cookies sure sound good! Mmmm! (And, ahem... I'm sure we won't mind if you share some of those cookies!!)

Risa, I didn’t peg you for a Californian! Color me surprised.

momteach310, good to see you! Oh, that weather sounds unpleasant, a good day to stay inside at home. I don’t mind cold but I really dislike winter wind. The puzzle and the cookies are a great way to spend the day!

I have a bunch of jigsaws that I haven’t done; I should work on one and give the iPad a rest. But I probably won’t.

Oh, really? So now I'm wondering where you thought I might be from. I actually have mentioned my state in quite a few posts, so I didn't think I was revealing anything new...

I'm guessing you're in the mid-West *which I don't understand because I'm in THE WEST and Mid-Western states are not near me...

Now look at what you went and make me do!!! I actually did some research, well, not really. I looked at pictures of the various names that have been given to the regions of the U.S. I also found out I don't know how to spell! Evidently it's one word, with capital M. I'll blame my teaching career where i learned about food chains, simple circuits, decomposers, and more... but, it wasn't in my Common Core Standards, so I never had to teach regions of the U.S., so now I don't know it. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it! But I did teach the California regions. If you ever need to know which they are, you give me a call!)

I hated teaching middle school! Loved the math content I taught, bit didn't like the students. Inner city, unmotivated, no parental support, took off school to stay home & have sex with boyfriends/girlfriends.

I did have some really sweet kids, but the others outnumbered the sweet ones. My classes were always stacked because I could handle the discipline. I just wanted then to give me an unstacked class one year. Admin loved the growth I got every year. Imagine what I could have done if I had classes of students who wanted to learn, but needed that little extra support!

It really is kinda freaky that our dreams can actually reflect some of our thinking. As I mentioned before, maybe here? (I keep forget where I'm posting what!) Anyway, as I mentioned before, analyzing my dreams has helped me understand things going on in my 'waking' life.

What I think is spooky is that someone else that you've never met, can tell you what your dream means...

Wow! I didn't realize CK2 had chosen the lines same lines I related to. I had the same situation as both of you did.

One year my principal took it too far when she was reassigning me FOUR boys who were problems for one teacher. I usually try to be respectful and keep my personal comments to myself, but this time I had had enough.

I asked her why I was getting all four at once. She gave me the worn out, "You have such a good way of dealing with students who have discipline issues." To which I replied, "The reason I developed whatever techniques work, is because I had lots of discipline problems throughout the years. I never asked to have them transferred out. I had to learn how to deal with them. By putting those boys in my class, you're denying Mr. X the opportunity to learn how to deal with them! You’re teaching Mr. X how easy it is to complain and get them sent off, instead of learning some strategies to help those boys, or his future discipline problems, correct their misbehavior!”

Of course I still got those boys, but I think what she really wanted was not to have to deal with this teacher. In the end it turned out that two of those boys eventually moved out of the school and the other two were among my top students. It still makes my blood boil when I think of how we all get paid to do the whole job, yet some get problem students shipped out to those of us who learned how to deal with them. Arrghhh! It STILL makes my blood boil!!

This is so heartbreaking all around. It not only affected the family, but all the rest of the community!

I had a family acquaintance pass from Covid recently, as well.

My friend's 98 yo mother passed, not from Covid, but she was told they'd have to wait 2 1/2 months just to bury her because of all the Covid-related burials! (Our Covid numbers have been extremely high this past month.) Very tragic!

Funeral rules amaze me these days. We've had 3 family members pass. One had a very small outdoor 15 minute service with max 25 people. That made many miss as we are a huge family. I don't really know the deal with my cousin, but I don't think there was anything. My FIL is the mist recent and we still haven't done anything yet. DH is waiting to see if us older folks can get the vaccine. I don't even know if he's checked into the numbers allowed etc.

On the other hand I know someone who had a 2 day viewing & graveside service in a high covid area.

I've seen a ton here too that had big ##. It appear the rules are not consistent.

insubordinate?
Old 01-31-2021, 08:14 PM

CK2, I tend to be a pretty easy-going person, but when she was giving me four new students (supposed discipline problems, no less) and he had that many fewer students, I was not happy at all. Just now, so many years later, I realize I could have been written up for insubordination, after saying all that to her.

But, you may be right. I have no idea what she thought because I remember she didn't make eye-contact. She just looked at her paperwork...

P.S. Post #250!! 50 more to go! That was fast! All in the month of January!

Checking in on this snowy day. I have a telemed appointment this morning so it doesn't really matter that we are getting 12+ inches today. I will hunker down and maybe bake some cookies. Vaccine on Wednesday - hoping the weather is better. Unfortunately places giving vaccines today and tomorrow are already closed. Make it a good day whatever you are doing.

But Risa, that’s the thing—the way you said what you said doesn’t seem like insubordination to me. You made a point without refusing to take those boys. You didn’t swear or yell at her. It sounded very professionally stated. That’s a rare skill to be able to do that in such an unfair situation.

momteach310, good to see you! I’m so glad I won’t be getting dumped on like that. Snow is okay but not a bunch all at once. But it sounds like you’re turning it into a cozy and pleasant day at home.

Good luck with your vaccine on Wednesday!

Rain, hail and snow! Oh my!

Hi, momteach! Glad you stopped by! Here in California we get excited when we get a few sprinkles of hail! (Actually, we even get excited about rain since we were in drought status for seven years.) I have no idea what we would do if we had snow in the cities. Although, we do get snow in the higher elevations of our mountains.

I have quite a few friends who have gotten their vaccines, all with no problems. Happy Vaccine Day on Wednesday!

🎶 Do do do do do do do
Do do do do do dododododo... 🎶

That’s the Jeopardy final clue theme music 🎶 in case you couldn’t tell.

I have really enjoyed Ken Jennings as host. I love how he signs off with “...and thank you Alex.” I look forward to seeing how LeVar Burton does, but the other names I’ve seen bandied about as possible hosts do not impress me at all. A couple of them are people I outright dislike; I can’t see watching if one of them is chosen to host.

...do dodo do do...do...do. 🎶

New topic...do you wear sneakers, and if so what kind?

I wear athletic shoes for exercise, of course, but I’m not brand loyal. I love Converse One-Stars for casual wear. Love!! I always notice when people are wearing them, especially in unusual colors—Stevie on Schitts Creek, for example. I have some cute Bob’s from Skechers and a pair by Roxy in a slip-on style.

Expensive sneaking around shoes

Sneakers... for sneaky people! I had never made the association until those ‘chit/chat’ messages.

But back to the subject at hand... I wear New Balance or Brookstone athletic shoes. Not out of choice, but to avoid pain. (I am far from athletic, which is probably why I have to wear expensive shoes.) About 10 years ago I was having some sort of leg issues causing me to use a cane for about a couple of years. My physical therapist suggested it could be related to the shoes I wore so I got $100+ New Balance shoes to fit the criteria he gave me. Suddenly the pain went from my leg to my wallet! !

Fast forward to about a year ago, I was having ‘heel spur’ pain (from wearing flip flops for a long time) so the podiatrist said I needed to do some specific stretches and wear ‘supportive’ shoes which, again, were $100+(!) Sooo, to avoid the other less pleasant alternatives, Brookstone is now on my feet.

It’s worth spending that money to have comfortable shoes so your feet are healthy!

Now I’m going to sneak off and put on my athletic shoes and do my workout....

Agreed! Pain can make it much easier to spend money on something that’s actually good for you!(Of course, smart people learn these things when they’re younger! Older folk wait for reminders... aka pain! )

No Snow Day for Me
Old 02-11-2021, 10:24 AM

I teach in one of the few districts in my area that is still all virtual. Last night, we got icy weather. Now, every district within a 150 mile radius is out today, except mine. If you have power and internet, you're supposed to be teaching!

The weird thing is, we still have inclement weather days built into our calendar. So I guess we're just going to teach those extra hours for free.

Inclement weather
Old 02-11-2021, 12:00 PM

Hi Mrs. Lilbit! Being in California, I have no idea what it would be to even consider a snow day. Most of our schools are still virtual, and the weather hasn't been much of an issue, anyway. The only times I can recall any of our local schools being closed during a regular teaching day were after a serious earthquake, and when schools are in the vicinity of wild fires.

I may have heard wrong, but I thought many schools were no longer having 'snow days' because so many can continue with virtual teaching. I guess this is what your school has decided.

For us, inclement weather typically meant rain, or maybe excessive heat, but it didn't mean schools were closed. Also with unions I'm sure our teachers would not be teaching for free. I certainly hope that doesn't happen for you. I'm sure I'd be furious if I were in your position.

Thanks for stopping by!

The weather here is COLD! It is supposed to be about -12 with -30 windchill. I am glad to be retired. MNy schools are cancelled because of the cold. I am glad there is no heavy snow in the forecast. It would be so cold shoveling!

We are having record breaking weather where I live. We rarely get snow, but they are predicting up to 10-12 inches. It snowed all day yesterday and has been snowing all day today.

Most of the school districts in my area have been teaching in person all year, with some students choosing to learn virtually. My district is the only one that chose to become a 1-1 technology school and be completely virtual. The other districts do not have the technology to have virtual learning days on snow days--not to mention the fact that often bad weather brings power and internet outages in the rural areas.

Some of the private schools here are declaring the next few days to be virtual days, but mine is the only public system that will not be taking off any days because of the weather. Today, we are off for Presidents Day, so I guess today is my snow day!

Oh my gosh!! I have to admit I’m a little nervous for all of you with so much rain and snow, especially when it’s not something your environment is used to!

I’m sure you are doing what you can to stay safe and warm but I’m sending lots of positive thoughts your way that the bad weather eases up!

I was watching the national news this morning thinking of all of you as they discussed the bad weather covering so much of the country! It was especially frightening to know that in the midst of the already bad weather there was that tornado just after midnight in North Carolina! There are no words! What an ordeal!

Teachnkids, so glad you made it okay! I would so much rather be snowed in than to have to deal with all that rain. I live in a flood zone, so that would scare me to death. I'm a bit nervous about what will happen will all this snow melts!

Yes, I'd rather snow too. We're getting another super soaker Thursday, with additional rain on Friday & Monday!

Anyone have a boat??

I am very thankful we are missing the ice storms & bitter cold! So many people suffering right now!

It is supposed to warm up some later today. I am happy we did not have much snow when it was below zero and the horrible wind chills. I know we could have had it much worse.

Wal-Mart trip

I made a trip to Wal-Mart. They were clearing out flannel shirts and Henleys For $1.00 each. I picked up one in each color for both my DH and myself. The Henley will be a great sleep shirt.
I like a good bargain.

$1 for a new shirt!! That’s awesome!

I spent $113 at the store today and came home thinking how little I got. No bargains for me today!

I know what you mean, CK2. I don’t like shopping (and I don’t buy online) so I go out and buy things when I need them, instead of planning by shopping the sales. Sometimes I will happen upon a great sale, but more often than not, I just buy it and move on. (Well, I do resent the prices, but I know it’s my own fault for not planning better.)

A friend told me, a long time ago, that she only buys clothes in January (and June?) because that’s when they tend to do inventory and clear out for the next season.
