My kids have been talking about the game "Among Us". I guess I'm not hip at all. Is it a video game? Computer game? On the Internet? How do you play? Tell me what you know to help me "get with it!"
It's an online game, you can get the app on your phone or ipad or download it to your computer. You need at least 4 people to play and it can be a private or public game. I play with my grandchildren and we always have it set to private. If it's set to public anyone can join. The problem with public games as always is the chat feature. It's a fun game though, a mystery where one of the players gets killed (cartoonishly) and everyone else has to figure out who did it.
“Join your crewmates in a multiplayer game of teamwork and betrayal!
Play online or over local wifi with 4-10 players as you attempt to hold your spaceship together and return back to civilization. But beware...as there may be an alien impostor aboard!
One crewmate has been replaced by a parasitic shapeshifter. Their goal is to eliminate the rest of the crew before the ship reaches home. The Impostor will sabotage the ship, sneak through vents, deceive, and frame others to remain anonymous and kill off the crew.
While everyone is fixing up the ship, no one can talk to maintain anonymity. Once a body is reported, the surviving crew will openly debate who they think The Impostor is. The Impostor's goal is to pretend that they are a member of the crew. If The Impostor is not voted off, everyone goes back to maintaining the ship until another body is found. If The Impostor is voted off, the crew wins!”
to take it back a few years...decades? it's the old Mafia game (there are other names)--it can be played in person--lots of kids have been doing it on the playground...
one kid is "It" and winks at others who all die off--you try to figure out who it is before you're killed off.
Earlier this year half my class used Among Us as the topic for a writing piece. I had no idea what they were talking about, so I flipped the class and let them teach me a thing or two. They loved being able to teach me something!
Amiga - impressive knowledge! Do you play? (I have never even see the game!)
I learned a lot from reading the responses. Up till now, the only thing I knew about Among Us is that "sus" is not a bad word and is OK for 6th graders to use.
I keep hearing about this but haven't tried it yet. We played the "mafia" game constantly in my church youth group growing up . I guess it was a good way to keep a bunch of kids contained and busy!
Is "sus" with a short u or a long u? I assume a short u? I can't wait to use this with my kids when they are doing something "suspicious" and watch their reaction! But it won't have the same effect if I pronounce it wrong!

Among Us is basically the tech version.
Exactly what I was going to write.
The video games is very fun, and it’s great for practicing problem-solving, logical reasoning, collaboration and negotiation. It also helps with developing spatial reasoning skills and working memory. I play with my students sometimes.
Teacherbee - “sus” is just like “suspicious” without the “picious.”
