Today I learned that my 9th grade home ec teacher (back when schools has home ec) is in home care hospice. She was the woman that made me want to be a teacher. Several years ago I saw her in the grocery store and she was just as fabulous as I remembered her. She saw my grocery list, took it from me, fished a red pen out of her purse, and wrote an A+ at the top.
As a piggyback to the cookie dough thread, my fondest memory of her was during the cooking unit when we made chocolate chip cookies. She came over to check on our group, told us that she really wasn't suppose to do what she was going to do, and popped a bit of cookie dough into her mouth. ("I love cookie dough!") That's when I found out that teachers are real people and I knew that I wanted to be a teacher like her.
