Wow! I need to hear what you are going to be doing. I only have 2 1/2 years to retirement, but don't know if I can do it. Good luck on your new career!
Hooray! I know there are many teachers who hesitate to leave the profession for various reasons, but it sounds like you made the right decision for you.
I watched my students graduate, took photos, turned in my keys, and walked with a smile to the car!
I am working as a resident relations manager for an upscale condominium. I've managed to cut my commute down to a whopping 5 minute drive from home, and I have a desk of my own! Perhaps best of all, I no longer have to work from home and I can deal with one to three people at a time versus 33 children. If I promote just one more level up, I'll make way more than I did as a teacher.
Nice! However, the bit about you "no longer having to work from home" is often the opposite of what many strive to be able to do. Many WANT to be able to work from home.
Each day I now have energy to do the things I neglected while teaching, like taking care of my health, running errands, etc. It's just amazing. I smiled the day I turned in my classroom key, and now I'm even happier.
Have a wonderful summer and I'll be thinking of (and thanking!) the reamining teachers in the profession. No one who's never been a teacher understands the mental and physical strength it requires.
