I'm sure there's a post here about teaching guided reading virtually. If not, can we work together to generate a list of how this could be executed for both upper and lower elementary? At my school, we have books available online, but we can only think of a few ideas about how to effectively teach guided reading online.

People are relying on round robin reading again....we want to avoid that as much as possible. Any suggestions are much appreciated!

I have been wondering how reading groups will look, but don't want to have the kids closer to each other than they need to be. So far, I have taken my index cards on a ring and pen and have been rolling in my chair from one desk to the next listening for 3-4 minutes to each child read as a substitute for reading in small groups.

How are your students' desks organized? I'm just wondering if you could strategically place everyone who is in the same reading group near one another so that you could be in the center and teach from there. I'm picturing six feet apart, but sort of in an arc shape.

Could the group take place on the floor so everyone could spread out? I guess the floor might not be the greatest idea. At this point, everyone is going to need their very own rug square .



As far as doing guided reading online, I'm still stumped.

Well, I'll add what I'm doing for kindergarten.

I'm not even going to tackle guided reading virtually. I'm doing phonics and phonemic awareness lessons, both whole group and small, but that's it. In fact, even when we go back in person I won't be able to do small groups so I don't know that it's going to happen at all this year...

Sign in to this company from Pioneer Valley. They have videos and resources on how to conduct guided reading TK-6th grade. You won’t be disappointed. Our district purchased it, but I am sure there are some resources you will find useful if purchasing isn’t an option.
