My mother passed away Monday. The side effects of her surgery two weeks ago were just too much for her little body to bear. My siblings and I are glad we could spend so much time with her and are thankful the hospital was allowing visitors.

Oh, this is sad news, but I'm so glad you got to spend a lot of time with her lately. My 11th-12th grade English teacher once talked about the difference between the physical body and the spirit, and it had a profound effect on me and my ability to handle saying goodbye to so many family members. The body is just a shell; who she was is the spirit, and that lives on and on. Who she was isn't her face or her arms or even her heart. It's what she did with them that made the two of you have that special love between mothers and daughters. It's the essence of her that still exists inside of you and has not gone anywhere.

When you get done crying, find a place to stop and listen to her. She'll be there. And be at peace now, just like she is at peace.
