I'm a B - unless I know it's going to be inconvenient to stop for gas later. I usually fill at about a 1/4 of a tank, but let it go further if I am on a road trip and I know there will be stations when I'm closer to empty. I'm too lazy to stop more than I need to. I drive mostly through suburbia, so there is no problem accessing gas stations.
A, especially in winter. I had read that it is best to keep a full tank in winter to avoid any condensation forming in the gas tank. My SO is definitely a B.
A for sure. There was a recall on a part on my car and to repair the part the dealership informed me that I had to have less than 1/2 tank of gasoline when I brought the car in. Trouble is, they weren't sure when the part would arrive. I had to keep my car at or about 1/2 tank for over a week! Yes, I went directly to the gas station after the repair.
My tank is almost at that 1/4 mark right now. I drive rarely, yet it’s killing me not to fill it. I haven't filled the tank since pre-Covid, so I paid my mechanic to add stabilizer. Now I sit wondering if I’ll mess that up if I do my compulsive fill-up.
I am an A. Do not like getting anywhere near the quarter tank mark. Twice I have been with DH driving on fumes praying for a gas station. Do not like that anxiety, especially when traveling in unknown areas - road trips.
It’s funny, I used to be an A because I was raised by a B (that sounds bad). I had to help my mom push many cars off the road and hike to a gas station. The last time this happened was when my DS was about 8 months old and I had no stroller, sling, anything to carry him in. So we found an old shopping cart on the side of the road to put him in for our 1 mile HOT walk with a screaming baby in an old shopping cart to get gas .....my whole childhood was like that.
Somehow I have noticed the tank gets lower and lower each time I go to the gas station. Covid doesn’t help either, I have only filled my tank 4 times this year (I have a hybrid and don’t go anywhere except for work). So I’m slowly turning into a B.
Closer to B, but I'm really neither. I try to fill up my tank when I get around 1/8 full. When I was in HS/on college breaks I worked at a place that was like 25 minutes away from my house, which was very rare for my hometown. I wanted to do something other than fast food. This was also back when gas was at it's most expensive, around $4 a gallon. I would always stress myself out driving on fumes because I didn't want to go spend the money. As an adult I will never do that to myself again!
If you don't have the money, that's entirely different. in my past, I've pumped $2 worth multiple times because that's all I had until payday.
That is the time I've been a B. We have had to push the car off the road and hike to gas stations before for tiny amounts of gas just until payday. There was a year or two we pretty much lived on empty. After that, I went A all the way for a little bit. I can't think of the last time I filled the tank because I never drive, but I think I'm closer to a B than an A- I'll fill at around 1/4 a tank left.
I am an A. My parents taught me to always have more than a half of a tank of gas, mainly due to the possibility of getting stuck in the snow and having to wait in the car for help to come. I live in a rural part of Wisconsin and that's a real possibility.
I hate getting gas so I wait and wait and wait! My car has this thing where it tells you how many kilometres you have until you run out of gas. I find comfort in that. My husband says I am not using it correctly...it isn't a game of chicken--me vs the gas tank...but
And, the ETA on my Google Maps is actually the time to beat, not the arrival time. I get in the car and turn it on with the sole goal of seeing how many minutes I can shave off my commute. So far my best is 5 minutes.
