Costco has 2 we are considering. One is Vizio (the same brand as the one that just passed) and the other is Hisense. I've never heard of Hisense, but that one is about $50 less and says its Smart TV Platform is Roku, which we have. The Vizio says its is Chromecast (which I don't know what is).
I thought it didn't matter so long as it has an HDMI port. Does anyone have any advice? I am googling to try to figure it out, but I love having real people respond! Thanks!
My tv’s are both older but they are both Vizio’s and I’ve been happy with them.
I use firestick on both of them but they were purchased prior to smart TVs being released.
Chromecast is through Google.
What will you be using the smart TV functions for? That would determine which platform makes the most sense.
I was more asking what you’d be streaming through the smart TV function on the actual TV...
If you don’t plan on actual using the functions that come with the tv is shouldn’t matter which one you get. If you get the one with Roku you won’t need to plug in your original roku, it will already be “loaded” on the tv and you download additional apps as needed (similar to a smartphone or tablet).
I haven't bought a TV in 15 years, so I have no clue about any of this! So I can either skip the Roku that plugs in and use an app on the TV or skip the app and plug in the device? Does the app cost money to use? One of the things I love about Roku is that it is a one-time purchase.
The app doesn't cost either. Just like the Roku device there are channels that you can add that would cost extra, but the built in Roku works the same as the device.
We recently bought a new TV with the built in. I love it.
No advice on what's out there these days, but I'll keep an eye on this thread. I've had my PANASONIC for a long time now, so it might have 1-3 yrs left. I tend to like SAMSUNGS though.
Just bought a Hisense from Costco, mostly because it was recommended by my brother who is he has one.
I’ve only had it for a couple weeks but so far I love it, no complaints! This is the second one my brother has had, the first one he just didn’t take with him on his last move.
After researching I went with TCL brand. DH came to the same conclusion, and we did not discuss it while looking into it. We are not high end people and TLC seemed like good quality for a good price.
We have a Vizio that’s going on 11 years of good working order, and we just bought a Hisense not too long ago. They both work great, but the Vizio has definitely stood the test of time.
