There’s a whole ‘nother World out there!

Clip to ScrapBook #1

When I retired, DH got sick and I took care of him for 15 months. Then I remodeled the family home, sold it, and moved 500 miles to my new home—which needed a ton of remodeling. Knock wood, I think I’m done with major projects.

I am finally getting the real feel of a less hectic retirement. This is absolutely the BEST life ever. I get to do FUN things!

Yesterday I worked with my personal trainer.
Today I took a cooking class. Really. It was so much fun.
Tomorrow my dear friend from my first teaching job, I was 23 when we met, is coming to visit.
Friday a young friend from my last school is coming to visit. She’s really coming to see her BFF who lives in the same town as me, but she did this last year and it was perfect: she flies in Thursday night, spends Friday with me then the weekend with her pal.

In case you’re interested in the cooking class, the theme was San Diego Summer Celebration—and we watched her demo and ate:
Orange Lime Ginger-Beer Margarita;
Salsa Verde Queso Fundido (Melted Cheese) with Pico de Gallo and Corn Tortillas;
Grilled Steak with Cowboy Butter (Mustard, Horseradish, Garlic and Chives);
Dilly Green Bean and Yukon Gold Potato Salad with Smoked Paprika Dressing;
Arugula Salad with Watermelon, Strawberries and Feta with Balsamic Vinaigrette;
Chocolate Mousse Torte with Cookie Crust.

Enjoy cooking and eating all that delicious food. You are right. Retirement is fun and so much less stressful than working. Enjoy visiting with previous teammates.

Sounds very tasty! I've taken a couple cooking classes, and found them to be entertaining as well as delicious. Unfortunately, nothing I learned has stuck.

Cooking classes

Cooking classes can be a lot of fun. I'm happy that you are able to do fun stuff now that the condo remodel is finished.

I've taken a few local cooking classes as well as try to find some when I travel. When DH and I were in Thailand, we took a class where we made Pad Thai, and in Borneo we made amazing Malaysian food. With the Borneo one we even got to go shopping with the chef in an open-air market. Being plant based, I find that Asian meals can be more easily adapted to vegans.

I have friends whose travel focus is cooking classes. One of my friends is going back to Oaxaca for a second time to learn more about making Mexican moles.

Yesterday, I went to a Jimmy Buffett concert with a retired friend. To me, nothing says summer like Jimmy!

Today, I went to a Mets game. They have been red-hot, and they won the game in a big way, something I don't usually experience in person.

Tomorrow, we are meeting another retired friend who happens to be down from Cape Cod. Can't wait to see her.

Your cooking class sounds great. Our library has a cookbook book club wher they give everyone in the group a copy of a cookbook and you are supposed to bring something from the cookbook to share. I am thinking of signing up. It used to conflict with a nighttime spin class I was taking, but since I am retired, I can take a class during the day!

I take spin classes 6 times a week, although I cut my foot a week and a half ago and needed stitches. Hopefully, they'll come out Friday and I can be back in business.

I joined a Meetup hiking group that goes to local areas to do group hikes. I enjoyed the first one I went on at a local nature preserve where I used to bring my students for a field trip.

The retirement life definitely is grand!

I was thinking the same thing. I need to step up my activity level. My community fall activity guide should be out soon.
