Possible New Job!

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I retired last year and am having a hard time making ends meet, so
I have been subbing and applied to the US Census Bureau. Next week I will interviewing for a one day per week art teacher position in the tiny school near our homestead.

There are two regular ed teachers, one class is PK-4th, the second is 4th - 8th. There are 27 students in the school.

Since it has been over sixteen years since I have written a resume and it has been hilarious trying to remember dates and addresses.

I am so grateful I was a part of the integrated arts project at my last school.

I am pretty excited about learning more about the nuts and bolds of the position. And even if I donít get the position I plan subbing there next school year.

So wish me luck. Thank you!

That certainly sounds like an interesting school, and I hope all goes well at your interview.

What do you mean by your homestead?

Clip to ScrapBook #7

We live in a rural mountainous area and have a tiny parcel of land we have lived at pastime developing.

Orchard and huge garden and husband rebuilt the original shack into a beautiful home for us.

We live off grid and produce our electric port through a micro hydro and solar array system.

No chickens yet.

We have a small house in town on the coast.

My last district before retiring was geographically equally between the two properties. My commute was an hour and fifteen minutes each way. Longer if there was a lot of snow or land slides.

We are at the mountain property more now that I retired.

I interviewed for the one day a week art job and was offered it.

And the admin and upper grade teacher asked me to apply for the TK to 4th grade class. I did and am now interviewing for it on Wednesday, and will hear late Wednesday night after the board meeting if I git the position.

I went in to school today to meet the half day para professional and we worked in the classroom, stripped the walls and went over the curriculum.

Met off and on with the admin and upper grade teacher. Saw a former student, who is now a parent at the school. I had him for fifth grade in the 2000/2001 school year!

I found out that I can draw my pension and teach, just have to do a small payback to the pension fund at the end of the year.

If the year goes well and they ask me back I can then decide if I want to rejoin service in the teacher retirement system.

So far there are only eight students in the class. With the para and the huge health and benefits package it is a pretty sound move for us.

The wonderful bonus is that my drive time each way will be 25 minutes.

I am peace if they select the other person applying as I am a shoo in for the art position. That pays under $20 an hour, no health benefits but does allow me to have a modest amount of income towards my very expensive medical insurance.

I will post an update once I know the outcome of the board meeting.
