Well, today was the first day of school. My retired friend and I went to a celebration breakfast. We even did FaceTime with our friend in Oregon. This is our third annual breakfast.

Last September was the beginning of my retirement. On what would have been my first day of going back, I went to a shore town and had breakfast at a pavilion restaurant right on the beach overlooking the ocean. Then, I got my beach umbrella, set it up, and relaxed reading a good book until it was time to go home. I plan on doing the same thing this year if the weather cooperates. Otherwise, I'll have to find something else fun to do.

Your day sounded perfect to me!

I have been retired enough years to have become jaded about retirement. I only remember that school has started again when I see the school buses drive by and also see my former co-workers lamenting on FB that their summer is over. Retirement is indeed grand!

I wish I would have thought about breakfast! Students will start later this week. We planned a fishing trip on the lake for the first day of school.

The first couple of years my retired friends and I celebrated the new school year with a breakfast. That tradition didn't last since most of us are traveling somewhere during that time.

We generally celebrate with a restaurant lunch, not breakfast, so we can:
- sleep late
- appreciate that we are not eating in the school cafeteria with a table full of students, with interruptions to open ketchup packets and Capri Sun drinks, etc.

First day of school here, and I'm celebrating being retired by laying in bed and drinking another cup of coffee!

...starting teacher's meetings on Monday and Tuesday, with Wednesday the first day with kids and all (shortened) classes. I intend to celebrate my "first day of no school" on Wednesday

Our governor brought up the novel idea of school not starting until after Labor Day! Of course it was after I retired! Many school districts were upset but the citizens prevailed. If course school ends in the middle of June.

This is my second year being retired and I am glad I am not in the classroom during that hectic first day of school. However, my aide, who is still working called me when she got home and said the TK and K and first graders were so good. She has worked forty (40) years as an aide and she so much enjoys it. It is nice to hear her enthusiasm.
