Tough week

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Whew. Glad it's Friday, and glad it's a 3-day weekend.
Yesterday I had a kid threaten to stab another kid, three others get in a fight, and a little boy say he wanted to kill himself and then throw a chair.

This morning I had the same little boy again say he wants to kill himself, and had a child melt-down and start trying to self-harm. All in the middle of my math lesson.

Thankfully all situations were resolved positively, but I am exhausted.

Oh, and wildfire smoke is thick today so we have indoor recess.

And to think... Some people claim we have "easy" jobs...

A lot of the public have no clue what we deal with on a regular basis as teachers.

We're cops, mental health counselors, and doctors too.

Having taught PE in a small school(s) for about forty years I sometimes would recount all the hats I wore at times. Doctor (got MANY diagnosis right) nurse, dad, mom, mentor (still do at the HS) coach, referee, tech person, reading coach and teacher, math teacher, gifted teacher, Admin. (when I was young) counselor (so often) , janitor, yard man, garbage man (I hauled TONS of garbage in my truck), carnival barker in the dunking booth each Halloween. But mostly a team member to make our school a safe place for our children to grow and realize some of their potential. Always trying to show them the possibilities for their lives. I don't think all teachers realize the true importance of their job. I really don't.

Man, oh man and the year has barely started! I got out of teaching pretty quickly. I don't know how you guys do it these days! I wish you positive thoughts to get through the rest of the school year!
