Harvest time

Clip to ScrapBook #1

When I was teaching, the last weeks of the garden were a mess! I had no time to pick the harvest, process it for winter, or properly clear out the garden.

Now. I have time! I drove up to the farm where I have my CSA today and got a big box of heirloom tomato seconds. I am roasting them right now and will freeze them.

I picked a couple of quarts of green beans from my garden for dilly beans.

I am also making dill pickles and turmeric cauliflower pickles...and pickled beets. I will probably spend all of this evening and tomorrow morning, and I will have lots of food put away for the winter.

Then I will have time to really put the garden to bed, so it will be even more productive next year.

Yet another perk of retirement!

It is so nice to have time to enjoy your bounty. Having time for things like this is definitely a perk of retirement.

I'm having fun reaping the harvest as well. We eaten everything in our garden except for the green pumpkins and the too-small cauliflower.
