There might be a lot of venting this year

I already have used one sick day. Legitimate reason, but I think the stress was causing it to worsen.

Administration decided over the weekend that our master schedule was going to change and it's changed in a way that kind of, well, screws me over as a specialist. It's kind of hard to explain why.

Seriously considering that other job opportunity. They're considering the possibility of hiring me in June. It's a pay cut but it's something I would like to do and if anything it might just be a change of pace from the environment I'm in. If I can make the transition over there without breaking my contract at least I can go back to teaching should I decide the other job doesn't work for me. And perhaps have a fresh start at a better school.

my family is going to be mad at me even though I'm an adult it does bother me a lot. On top of everything else I don't want to be on their bad side. I'm still viewed like a child I think simply because I'm single.

Thanks for giving me a safe space to vent I'm just not sure how I'm going to finish the year. I guess I can try to keep thinking one day at a time. At this rate I'm going to have to plan something I enjoy like literally every day.

2 nights in a row I did sleep though. That's something.

I'm sorry that the year is off to a rocky start. I hope you are feeling better. Sometimes, I think administration is put on earth just to make the lives of teachers miserable. My last year of teaching, we had one less section of my grade and I was the one whose schedule changed. Everyone else had their specials in the afternoon at my grade level, and I wound up with gym first thing in the morning and Enrichment in the morning for the quarter we had it. Because of the schedule, the Enrichment teacher had to do my class in my room, so I could get nothing done in there during that time. Even my afternoon specials were close to recess, so it was a LONG afternoon with a difficult class.

I understand wanting the approval of one's family. It's a hard choice, but at the end of the day, it's your life and you deserve to be fulfilled and happy in what you're doing. If this school isn't a good fit, and/or the other job opportunity turns out to be something you want to try, you will weigh the options and hopefully decide what's best for you. And like you said, teaching at another school is always an option. It is good to have the year to think about it and see how everything plays out.

Vent away, we're here to listen to and support you.

If you know you'll be facing a pay cut, I would do my very best to cut my living expenses and put the difference between the salaries in a savings account. If you can't live on the lower amount, you will have time to rethink your plan.

Good idea. This would actually give me less anxiety about living on less.

Would it help you to know that families act the same? When my sisters' children were little I was always given explicit instructions when babysitting. They were concerned I was too inexperienced to handle their little darlings. BTW they really are darlings and their children are too. Just once I would have loved to have let my sisters, one at a time, loose in my classroom of 28 nine year olds!

Bulldoglab's advice is excellent. If you do not already have a Roth IRA, start now using that "extra" money.
