Summer School

Anyone else doing summer school? Got an emergency call to take over for a 9th and 10th grade class from tomorrow until the end. I've been in for these classes once before and know that the teacher has a certain structure, but also it's clear that I will be planning for the rest of it. Any advice for crash-planning? Before this I was asked to do the first 2 weeks of English 11 & 12. Originally there was only an open position for 2 days of proctoring and grading the Regents, but super excited that all of these opportunities have opened up along the way! Now to hopefully keep the kiddos out of trouble for these final 12 days...

This summer I was working a few days here and there as a sped aide sub.

Unfortunately, I stopped accepting jobs very quickly. Far too much drama and back-stabbing going on.

But enough about me and my stress, lol.

Advice for crash planning:

Don't be overwhelmed, you're being thrown into a situation at the last minute and they'll be understanding of that. In the meantime Google websites that provide lesson plan material in the specific subject you're teaching. Watch Youtube videos too, they can really be helpful. And if there's any way you can email the teacher you're working with that could put you at ease.

Best of luck and enjoy the remainder of summer!

They Called Me Once, Very Unprofessional

They called me once for summer school, but were very unprofessional about it. The lady who called me told me I had to be in the school in 20 minutes! This was impossible and I told her I'd need about an hour to get ready and get there. She told me that this will be the case throughout the summer and will need soneone to get there immediately. I later wrote an email to cover myself explaining that requesting someone to be there in 20 min was unreasonable and I will not be available under that short notice. Needless to say, they never called me again. However, during the school year, they are much more understanding (different supervisor) and tell you "get here when you can".

Yeah, summer school can be a miserable experience. Agreed.

People are hot and uncomfortable, not really happy to be there, and things can be super unorganized.

Not a fan of summer school either.
