Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hello! I am a co-teacher in a 6th grade ELA class. My gen. ed. teacher and I would like to set up a blogging site for the students. The two of us would be the ones to do the blogging at first and then gradually release the blogging to the students.

I am in the midst of doing research about this now, and I am already stumped! I have no idea what the best platform will be to use. Does anyone do this? Do you have a preferred website? I do not mind a paid site, as long as it is not outrageous. So far, I have seen then from $3-8 a month. That is not too bad.

Any tips or suggestions from the pros?
TIA

I use kidblog.com in my 8th grade class. I like it because it has a setting where I review all posts. That means they aren't on there chatting and typing nonsense. I use it mainly for opinion writing. They respond to my post on day one. The next day, they respond to two peer posts. It's not free. I think I pay $14 a month.

What about edmodo? It's more like a feed than a blog, but it will accomplish the same things.

Have you looked at Flipgrid or Seesaw?

I thought about Edmodo, but we wanted the students to write for an audience outside of school. We wanted them to eventually be able to explore there interests and expand the circle of people who see and respond to it.

Flipgrid is a no-no in our district. There was some big something that happened (not sure the details) but due to safety concerns we are not allowed to use it. I have never heard of the second one.

Right now, I have IT checking into Kidblog and Edublog. I think they are leaning towards Edublog, although I think Kidblog would be easier to maintain and set up!

Thanks for the responses! I am going into unknown territory!
