Author Study for Spring?

Hi, I teach in a program for kids who are diagnosed low-cog.

The average working level in the room is Grade 2, give or take.

I'm trying to think of a fun author study we can do this spring. We've already written our own stories using visual prompts, so I was thinking of an author we can study for reading strategies and then use their books as a pattern/template for our own writing.

Any suggestions?

Cynthia Rylant? She is the author of Henry and Mudge and Mr. Putter and Tabby, either of which would be a good series to hook 2nd grade readers into. I thought of her because a couple of her books have a good story relating to spring. Puddle Trouble, I think is one.
She has a number of books of different types and at different reading levels.

Laura Numeroff (If You Give a Mouse series).... as you read each, emphasize that it's a circle story. Then students can create their own circle stories.

If I recall, the actual, suggested author study for second grade is Ezra Jack Keats.

Lots of books to choose from, lots of ideas to teach.
