I'm so disappointed in my p and having a hard time getting over it. We had a meeting yesterday to discuss star 360 testing. He wants our goal to be that half of our kids score 750 or above on the early literacy test (which is a 1st grade, 6th month score) and take the reading test in the spring. When I asked him why we should be pushing the kids to be so far above grade level and taking this inappropriate test, rather than focusing on getting all kids scoring at grade level or above, his answer was "because we can".

He also said, "I hear you, but this is the direction we're heading and I don't want to hear it again."

I wonder if there is a monetary incentive. Our superintendent gets a $20,000 bonus if scores on a program the district bought are above a certain percentage. (This is not announced, teachers are told that students "must" score at a certain level.)

Good times...

Wow I'd be annoyed and worried. This guy is definitely a micromanager with no clue as to what a kindergartner needs .

Oh no. That's TERRIBLE. Just because SOME can, doesn't mean it is even remotely reasonable. I am so so sorry.

Inappropriate testing & goals

We get pressure like that sometimes. After a few bad experiences speaking my mind, I just smile and nod. And then keep on doing what I believe is best for my kinders.

What's the worst that can happen? We didn't meet the goal. Sorry. Maybe next year

We always flunk the middle of the year testing because we use American assessments that require kids to know letter names ....yet we only teach sounds in the first half of the year.
We're forced to assess something we haven't taught and that our kids haven't had exposure to. How crazy is that?

Then by the end of the year, their reading scores are great and I get told "Oh, good job, whatever changes you've made are working!".
