This is one of my most hated parts of teaching-decorating doors. Any good ideas? I've looked on pinterest, but nothing is standing out.

In my NJ district we were told by the fire department that we werenít allowed to decorate our doors (a few little things are fine, but not the whole door.)

Perhaps someone can find out?

I bought garden flags for my door and several years I had laminated pictures of different morning greeting techniques. The kids could choose how they wanted to be greeted. This was for the inside of the door.

Do you have to decorate it? I put my name on a big wooden cupcake (my theme was sweets) and hung it on my door (with a 3M hook). Then I used a tension rod to put a cute curtain topper across the top. It makes my door look cute and lasted all year.

The only time I decorate my door is at Christmas when we turn it into a gingerbread house. Can you just put a good quote up that you can leave up forever?

I might just buck the system and not decorate my door. I just look like sour grapes because the whole grade level does their doors. I have a cute hanger, so I might just use that.

It isnít sour grapes. Sometimes we take things to the extreme and it takes one person to bring things to normal.

You can also add something child done to the door after the first day or so. Small picture of favorite pet, themselves, thing they did over summer... then the door is child centered, which is better to me.

Our kinder eas do these elaborate doors. Usually one class doesnít have an ea to start, so their door then looks undone. I think it is a waste of resources, both time and money. They could be making things for students to use...or if k doesnít need help, go help one of the teachers with 30 kids and no ea.

Like Munchkins, I am in NJ and the fire marshall doesn't want paper on doors or anything covering up the windows. Somehow, they got around it one year and did a door decorating contest. It was only allowed to be up for one week. I just covered my door with bulletin board paper and let my students create the rest. I can't remember if there was an actual theme, but I think our door was a monster.

I don't decorate my door because it opens out into a recessed area. None of my kids ever see the outside of the door.

I have decorated the inside lightly before.

Do the emergency procedures and evacuation route posters count as decoration?
I don't do my door.
