Aspiring teacher working as a sub going on 12 years now.

I am becoming very discouraged. I currently live in California, I have have been a substitute teacher for going on 12 years now. In these past years, I have done day to day as well as long term assignments in Pre-k to 6th grade GATE. Two years ago, I even went back to school to get an authorization for a second language to be added to my credential. Which has helped since I have had two long term assignments in a dual immersion settings. I am stuck in limbo, I can't add those classes because I do not have a valid credential. I have not had the opportunity to clear it. I have however extended it, with no luck of getting hired either.
I am at a loss. I do not now what to do or even if there is any hope of me still getting hired in the future.
I am hoping, I can get some feedback or suggestions of what can I do at this point. I am getting married soon and moving is definitely an option. I am just losing hope seeing those that have done student teaching after me getting hired before I have. These past eleven years I have had to supplement my income by working in retail as well as working as a sub in other districts. I am confident that I am plenty experienced to have my own classroom. I thank you in advance for not only reading my thread but any information or feedback that you may have as well.

I don't understand this part. I guess it doesn't work this way in my state. Why is your credential not valid?

Since moving is definitely an option, you may want to apply to low income larger urban districts, which often have high teacher turnover. I did that 32 years ago, thinking I would get some experience and move to a more "preferred" school. Well, I never left! I lfell in love with the kids, their families, and the whole community. I felt I could make so much more of a difference living in the area and working with more needy kids.

Do you have ESL certification? You would be hired in a hot minute in my state.

Thank you for responding! From what I have been told, it's not valid because I haven't cleared my credential. I do have an ESL certification and in process of a bilingual spanish authorization but again because my credential is still prelim and hasn't been cleared, I can't attach it to it yet.
What state do you live in if you don't mind me asking?

We have many substitutes looking for jobs in NY but if you are certified ELL you should apply here. The rules have changed and districts are in need of ELL teachers now.

If you and your fiancÚ are open to moving out of state, I'd do it. Many states are having a teacher shortage. My state (SC) certainly is! Here is a link to The Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA):
cerra.org
It is full of information, and if you phone them, I think you will find them friendly and helpful.

Have you not done your BTSA? You must have your emergency credential or you would not be able to sub in public schools in California. If it is that you have not done BTSA then all you have to do is finish it while teaching to have a professional clear in California or is it that you did not finish your credential program? If it is just not finishing the BTSA then apply in Oakland, SF, LA San Diego, San Jose, Richmond, Compton, Bakersfield a lot are short in teachers. Also apply in October that is when some teachers who did not really know what they got into quit and the districts are struggling to fill the vacancies! You might get hired on the spot due to your years of substitute teaching!
