Do you take naps?

I've never been one to take naps per say but I do doze off in my chair after dinner if I'm watching tv. My mom said that's what all the elderly men in our family did. The women all took cat naps or scheduled naps during the day.

Now retired , do you take naps?
Did anyone in your family take naps ?

Yes! I take a 30 minute nap most days. It a quick and calming refresher!
Some days, I don't actually fall asleep. It's nice to set aside some quiet, relaxing time away from the day's activities, and just meditate.

I have never perfected the gentle art of napping. Wish I could because I do not sleep well at night.

My dad would doze off watching Wheel of Fortune after supper every night. My older brother does the same.

No naps. If I fall asleep during the day I feel awful when I wake up and then I can't fall asleep at night. DH falls asleep in front of the tv often.

Yes!! Pretty much everyday I will actually nap for 20 minutes or meditate for 20-30. If I am super tired, I have been known to fully sleep for over an hour. I try not to because then I donít sleep well at night.

I dont ever nap but I do sleep well at night. On the flip side, hubs loves to nap but then he often has interrupted sleep at night. I dont want to have this kind of sleep cycle.

I love naps!
Old 07-30-2020, 08:49 PM

Clip to ScrapBook #9

My mom almost always took an afternoon nap when I was growing up - she ran the farm while dad worked off the property, and with that and three kids, she needed one!

A couple of days a week, I used to close my door right after school (high school) for ten minutes (with a sign on the door that told the kids that I'd be "Back in ten minutes"), put my head on my desk, and catnap for a few minutes - even those few minutes made it possible to help kids after school, coach the rest of the afternoon (along with making it through games/meets twice a week) and then do my planning, copying and grading papers.

Now that I've retired, I can indulge my love of naps more often. I still get up between 5 and 5:30 AM, so a nap is still helpful to get me to stay awake through dinnertime I love napping in the early afternoon on the chaise lounge under the trees in my back yard, with the squirrels, lizards, deer and birds for company. I rarely nap for more than 15- 20 minutes or so (a few minutes to get to sleep, a few minutes to sleep, then a few minutes to wake up) but then I read for awhile (I swear, one of the best things about retirement is time to read!!!)

Funny, when I was a kid, I didn't want to take naps...but as an adult, I can hardly wait

YES! I've always been a nap taker on weekends during the school year and definitely in the summer. I take a 15-20 min catnap and it helps revive me . Then I have a second wind to keep going the rest of the day.

No, not a nap taker. My day starts at 4:15 AM and ends about 9:15- 9:30 PM depending on ending my bedtime reading.

My SIL and DB are longtime nap takers.

No naps. I only sleep during the day if I'm sick or if I have a bad migraine.

My parents used to take naps on Sunday afternoons.

I usually take a short nap (20 minutes) after lunch. It refreshes me.
When I first started teaching K, DH thought I would take a nap with the students.

Yes, but not as much as I used to. I do love a good afternoon nap, though! And when my grandson is here, I love cuddling up with him and napping together.

no naps

I seldom take a nap even though there are plenty of days I feel exhausted. I've found that if I nap I don't sleep well at night so I power through the urge to nap.

DH has always been able to take a "power nap" for 20 - 30 minutes and wake up refreshed. I have no idea how he does that. I tend to sleep so deeply that when I awake I'm groggy. It would be wonderful to nap for a few minutes and feel refreshed.

that's why I started this post because I never understood how anyone could feel refreshed after a nap. If I do happen to.nod off reading something always seems to startled me to wake up and then I NEED coffee to get going. . .in the late afternoon. So then I go to bed way too late and so begins the cycle. So I power through it as well.
I have to admit in this heat it is hard not to want to just crash.

Since my dh developed a lot of health needs you bet I take a nap if I can in case I need to be up late or awakened during the night which happens a lot. Before that I rarely took an actual nap.

Also when we are staying up with baby animals we nap to make up for lost sleep so our sleep habits are weird.

I don't tend to get a lot of sleep at night. Not sure why, but I am more of a night owl now and still get up pretty early. If I am tired during the day, I might lie down on the couch and briefly doze off, not on a regular basis, though. One of the perks of retirement!

I've always taken naps. Now that I'm retired I often take a 45-60 minute one in the afternoon. I'm on a medication that can cause drowsiness, so that might contribute to the somewhat long naps.

No one in my family does so.

Good afternoon to all-

Yep, every day from right after lunch to about 1:00. then I get up and try to finish what I didn't get done during the morning. We keep farmers/angler's hours- get up dark-thirty early and go to bed quite early, too.

It works.

good day to all- Ed

Before retiring, I was fond of taking a nap on the drive home. The frantic honking horns of the other cars usually woke me up.

I never perfected the art of napping either, but everyone in my family has. They can catnap 20-30 minutes and get up refreshed.
I have tried, but, I'd sleep.
I'd wake up at some crazy time like 1AM and not be able to sleep that night. I quit trying.
