I agree completely that you should head to a running store. They spent so much time with me and I walked out with a pair of shoes that have been an absolute dream! No more aching knees!
What do you call a running store?
We have Sports Check but I don't find the people that work there very knowledgeable when it comes to helping me pick shoes. They can replace the New Balance shoes I came in with but don't really fit my foot.
What are Mizunos?
Are they available in Canada or do I have to go to the States?
In my area (Ontario), we have The Running Room and Runner's Edge for running stores. Your right, I don't think Sport Check would know what they were talking about . You need a store that just sells running gear. I'd say, go to the running store once and get the right shoes then order online after......it can be a lot cheaper.
several different brands. Brooks are the absolute best. The cush does not start breaking down from the 1st wear and they have lasted me longer than any other brand. Check them out! They get some of the highest ratings.
but my son is turning into quite a runner. He read Born to Run and is a big fan of running on the ball of your foot - it supposedly cuts down on injuries.
He runs in those *hideous* Vibram five-finger shoes. He's become a bit of a radical about them.
When I did run, I never went to a running store. That sounds like a really good idea though.
Nike Pegasus- lightweight and comfortable, affordable, just the right amount of cushion! I've tried others and keep coming back to my Pegs. But I agree to go to a running store to make sure you get the right fit for you.
I have always been a New Balance girl. I have decided that I hate them! They just don't hold up. I went to Accademy Sports last week and they suggested Asics or Brooks. I tried them both on. I bought the Asics and I love them!! I usually don't spend $100 on running shoes but I did this time. Oh my gosh they are like heaven on my feet! The shoes are so light and so supportive. Last night was the test - I did the P90X leg workout. In my New Balance shoes my feet were slipping all around. But in my Asics they held firm.
My new favorite:
Reebok has a new shoe that has some kind of funny bottom that is supposed to help relieve muscle fatigue up to 20%. I forgot what they are called but I bought a pair and do use them sometimes. I have 3 pair of running shoes and trade off and on so my feet aren't using the same shoe.
Be careful of the new minimal shoes like the 5 finger. They can cause issues with your feet and your arches.
Asics... they aren't too expensive, yet they feel great on my feet. They aren't too tight in the toe area and I don't get blisters from them. I'm on my 3rd pair and I love 'em. I just got a pair the other day for $60. That's not bad. I just can't see paying more for shoes that I'll have to replace in a few months. But, that's just me and my frugal self.
are what I wear also. They provide support and cushion for my feet and I've had no discomfort with them. As others have suggested, it's a good idea to go to a running store and get fitted.
