Hello! I am brand new to fifth grade after teaching in primary grades for seven years. I am nervous and excited! What do I need to know, buy, read? Tell me everything!

Welcome to fifth grade! It's an amazing grade--not that I'm biased! They are both curious and independent at the same time. What I can tell you, is look into the math standards. 5th grade is typically filled with decimals, fractions, extra long multiplication, and division. Look around for great interactive materials and manipulatives. I tried to find multiply ways of teaching these topics because they begin to get so repetitive and it can sometimes confuse the students over the course of lessons. Hope that helps from a math standpoint!
