Ok, does anybody have an awesome electric pencil sharpener that works well and actually lasts?? I really need a new one...and it is sooo hard to find one that actually sharpens the pencils on all sides and where the pencils don't break two seconds after you sharpen them! (Granted...they don't make pencils like they used to! )
I bought this one last year from Office Max: http://www.officemax.com/office-supp...^return_skus~Y
I also paid for the extra $5 warranty and when a child knocked it off the shelf and it broke, they just handed me a new one off the shelf. worth the warranty.
This is the one that I have. I loved it so much that when I changed grade levels, I ordered one for my new room as well. I teach kindergarten, so I do not let the children use it. Maybe that's why it lasts longer...?
but the best investment I ever made. I purchased 3 and the kids will stop by in the morning from other grade levels because they say it is the miracle sharpener.
I got 2 blue and a green and the kids know they will die a slow painful death if they touch the green one.

I just ordered the non=electric one mentioned and can't wait to try it!! My kids go through pencil sharpeners faster than their glue sticks...I got tired of buying electric ones at $40 a pop
Is it wrong to love your pencil sharpener?
The classroom friendly one has every other sharpener beat, IMHO. After 4 yrs, mine wasn't sharpening well, so I got the replacement blades.
Oh, I place mine in a small cake pan. Any kind of tray will work. It contains the little bits that can fall out.
I borrowed this one last year from another teacher, and I looooove it! It lasted all year and is still going strong. I bought another one as a back-up. Btw, I don't let the kids use it - I'm the only one who sharpens the pencils, but it works so fast it's not a big deal!
multigrade,
I just went to the friendly website and found the sharpeners you mentioned. They look great! I have question. You say you put yours in a small cake pan. Does it attach in some way? Suction cups?
I had the pencil sharpener blues until I made each kid get their own with an attached waste container. I then train them to tape them shut in case they fall out of their desks whatever.
Sharpening is silent and they don't have to leave their desks to do it!
You have to train your students how to use this one-it's a bit challenging (even for me to figure out). But once you figure it out, it's the most awesome pencil sharpener in the world!!!
It has a lever to attach to the counter top, but it does not stay in place. Mine just sits on the conter top.

These have a clamp thingy which comes with it, but it doesn't work right, which is amazing considering the sharpener is great! Maybe shelves in Germany (?) are different.
Mine just sits in a 8" round old cake pan. It catches the graphite dust which collects under the sharpener. A tray would work as well, but my 1st graders do better with the pan.

Reason: changed size of pan
These are the absolute BEST!! I ordered 3 at the beginning of last school year and put them with my 3 electric sharpeners...... The kids NEVER used the electric ones at all after they tried the manual ones!
I just ordered 3 more last week ( so I will have 6 this year). I'm not going to put my electric ones out this year.
I brought one of the Classroom Friendly sharpeners home to use this summer...
