Does anyone use Class Dojo in fifth grade? I am moving up to fifth from second and have used Class Dojo for the past few years for behavior and also parent communication. Students choose coupons for the points they earn.
Do you think this would work in fifth?
I will be changing the coupons so they will be geared more towards my fifth graders.

Yes, 2 teachers I teach with use Dojo with their 5th graders and it works.

I do use it for communication, and parents LOVE it for that. I'm not using it for behavior...but I think if you made the coupons something "good" they would love it.

I really like the parent communication part of it. I used Remind also last year and I’m just going to use Dojo for communication next year instead of both. Dojo doesn’t limit your message to a certain amount of characters when sending to the whole group. There’s also the ability to send pictures, files or videos individually or you can post them to your classroom. Hope this helps!

Wouldn’t it just be the same? I’m truly open, and believe my new coworkers are going to use it, but just want to know the difference and if it’s worth it.

Yes. I've used it with 4th, 5th, AND 6th graders. The buy in is different, but it still is there if you make it worth their time. Remember to tie your rewards and consequences to the points.

Yes, I used DOJO and a clip chart last year in 5th and will do the same this year. I cannot leave DOJO up all day, so I use a clip chart as well for visuals.It worked for me.

We (5 teacher team) have been using DoJo with 5th graders for the last 3 years and love it. We love that we can give positive/negative points while the students are in our class. We also love the fact that parents can message us easily. I even send a daily message to the parents that lists the homework, upcoming activities and other information that the parents need to know.
At the end of the day those students with 0 negative points gets a ticket to write his/her name on, the tickets then go into the monthly basket. At the end of each month I draw out a ticket and that student gets $10.00 cash. I figure I use to spend at least $10.00 a month on candy and other incentives and this is easier and cheaper. They love it!
