Where to buy shorts for DD
Old 02-02-2020, 02:30 PM
  #1

My DD (6th grade) is moving into women's/juniors size clothing. Thinking ahead, I'm not really sure where to look for shorts for her. She is actually asking for shorts that are long (down to her knees). Most of what I have seen in the stores for girls her age are extremely short. She is 5' if that helps any. I also am hoping to not spend a lot as she is definitely still growing.

TIA

Id ask her to go online and find some examples of what she likes. I love online shopping. Good luck!

I'd start with Old Navy, Target, and H&M. If they don't have anything, my dd likes American Eagle and Urban Outfitters. We've also had great luck, and fun, shopping thrift stores when we can't find what she wants in the store.

I think it depends upon what she likes and the style she desires. I like the idea of asking her to look online just to get an idea of the style she wants because that will dictate where she goes shopping. I always like to buy in person myself (especially at first because I'm not always confident of the fit).
If she truly wants very long shorts, it may be that she should shop in the boys section because those tend to be longer.
Other than the obvious (Old Navy, Gap, Target, Wal-Mart), you might look at running stores or outdoor stores. DD refused to wear shorts for years largely because she couldn't find any that she preferred. But it got to be a huge PITA because she's a runner and we live in Virginia and I about got heat stroke watching her run in yoga pants in August. On a whim,I got her a few pairs of shorts at REI and, lo and behold, she wears them and not only to run in! It's a miracle. They're not super long but they're not so very short that they make DD feel uncomfortable.

Try the boys/mens departments for longer shorts?

I would try stitch fix for her. I have gotten the best shorts from them. I like ones that are in between. Not to my knee but not booty either. Another good spot is American Eagle!

I'm not sure if they'll come to her knees, but Old Navy has great shorts. I have several pair and love them. Gap may have some longer ones, too.

If not, I agree that American Eagle may have something. My DD used to get clothes from there.

I like the same type of shorts and I usually find them when searching bermuda shorts. I have a pair from Old Navy, American Eagle, and Gap but I had to search online to get them.

Lands End or LLBean. Their shorts are functional, but could be paired with a fun top.

American Eagle sells the longer length online only. We used them for school uniform shorts.

My DD loved American Eagle, too! She's almost 6' so we needed longer shorts, too!
