Hello!
I just wanted to show you the lamps that I made! My room is polka dots and garden animals (ladybugs, caterpillars, bees, butterflies) I want everything to look great with all the dots so I made these lamps. I am also making curtains for my windows out of sheets I found. I am also upolstering a sofa chair that is a rocker with polka dot sheets I found. Ill show more pictures as I get them, but here are the lamps!
The lamps took about a half hour each. I used a stencil for the ladybugs, and bee, and also the dots on the shade. The dots on the stem, I painted freehand. I had to touch them up a bit after I stenciled, but I am so happy with how cute they are. I got the bases at walmart for five bucks each.
I love it!! Makes me want to start working on my new theme for next year. But since I have three weeks left of school still, and have to move classrooms which means lots of packing and cleaning, it will have to wait.
I love your lamps. I saw the lamp bases at Walmart the other week, but my creativity hasn't kicked in yet on how to design them for my theme - Hollywood/Movies. You have inspired me though, so I will keep thinking.
Can't wait to see what you do next! Keep the pictures coming.
You just gave me a great idea. I have a couple of those lamps (I was going to get rid of them at a garage sale next week) that are glass and you can fill them with stuff (mine have shells from NC right now).
I could fill them with erasers or something 'teacher-y'! I have a gazillion of those pencil top erasers (Walmart has them cheap and I always just keep stocking those from sales) -- that might be kind of cute. I was going to say crayons, but I don't know how warm it gets inside that glass and don't want a big wax mess.
Maybe you can use black blocks along the base and top of the shade and it will look like a reel. Then you can stencil 4 big stars in the middle of the shades. The base can have small yellow stars, if you can find the black base. I bet it would look awesome!
what about painting the movie reel around the shade with black--big black square and tiny black squares for the reel "teeth" to pull. and gold stars inside, as PP mentioned. paint the base gold (looks sort of like an oscar statue).
Very cute! can't wait to see the rest of your things when you are finished.
The dollar Tree has several computer papers with dot designs that would go with your theme.

Okay, I'm on my way to Walmart. I love the ideas that you all came up with. I'm not sure which design to use. I will have to check out all of the other accents I have already purchased to decide which one will fit best. Since I have a Disney twist on my movie theme, maybe I could stencil a "director" Mickey on the shade in the filmstrip squares. Lots to think about. Thank you everyone. Keep the ideas coming!
You may also consider using towels (beach towels or decorative), check out TJMAXX or Marshall's as they are around 3-7 dollars a piece, to upholster your chair or make pillows from. The material is more sturdy, especially with little kids. Just a thought. I LOVE your lamps and I am sure the kids will too!!! How exciting.
OLD gumballs in mine. It is sitting by my "Chill Chair" (Safe Seat) and when the little ones need to calm down I have them count how many gumballs are in the lamp -- hahaha!!! It looks really cute.
