Our secretary has become very sour. She's had a pattern lately of emailing teachers while they are absent to complain about their sub plans or the fact that they took off. No, I do not leave bad sub plans and no I do not take off all the time. but here I am derp is that she's going to send me a nasty email tomorrow.

If you followed the procedure to receive your day off, then she/he has no say in you parade. Why he/she feels entitled to even ask you about your absence and to evaluate your lesson. What are her credentials?

Having said that, she/he can really make your life at school miserable. The fact that they work in the office don't give them the right but it sure give them an undeserved amount of influence, opportunity and power to do good and unfortunately EVIL too.

I used to have one who hated my guts bc her daughter didn't receive an A. She would call and talk to my parents and even when nothing was happening she would encourage them to complaint to the P.

She also did this a few times to other teachers when she forgot I was there listening. She would also ease drop through the intercom and pull kids from class to questioned them.

Hope it doesn't get this bad for you but I can totally understand your stress. If you can, just hit the delete button. Just answer what you're obligated to say and delete if it is just bickering.

Sounds like your secretary thinks she is the principal. That woman has too much power.

like that, it is because the principal somehow has created that belief in them where they think they are above all the teachers. I have worked with some lovely secretaries, and I have worked with a few who think I am there to do their bidding.

A great school secretary is worth her weight in gold.

Those are the kind of e-mails I immediately delete without a response.

Our secretaries are pretty wonderful. I feel awful when I need to take off unexpectedly, but our secretary assures me that I have the time and they will make it work.

Definitely ignore the email. You don't need the negativity.

Thank you for getting in touch. When I'm out of the building I let the sub handle things. I'm sure it all works out.

I have a handful of colleagues/faculty members on my "Send messages from ______ directly to Trash Can" email settings.
