Progress Report grading...please help

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Our current Progress Report grading system uses S for Satisfactory and N for Needs Improvement. We also use N/A for skills not tested yet. Here's the problem... I really need something in between for students who have not quite mastered the skill but only need a little improvement.

Please share any ideas or what your school already uses for "grading"...

Thanks!

We have a "P" between the S and N that stands for "Progressing Toward."

Grading

We use 4, 3, 2, 1.

4-exceeds grade level expectations
3-meets grade level expectations
2-just below grade level expectations
1-well below grade level expectations

We like this system because it is similar to what is used on state assessments.

Do you have a space for comments? That is where I would address this. I also sent a letter with the first progress report telling the parents that "needs attention" is not a cause to worry. Learning in kindergarten is very developmental and that this is an area that they can give their child extra help in at home

I also think that if they are close but haven't quite mastered that I would consider that satisfactory.

Kindergarten reporting scale

In my province we use;
4 = exceeding expectations
3 = meets expectations
2 = minimally meeting expectations
For kindergarten students we are not allowed to use 1 not yet meeting expectations, that is reserved for grades 1 to 3.

We do have a comment section where one can be more specific. We also have a separate comment section titled "Here are some ways to support learning at home and school" where teachers are expected to provide suggestions for parents. Things like "read with your child regularly" "review the letters of the alphabet nightly" "practise sight words using the cards that have been sent home"
