Does anyone have an activity they do with their class for 9-11?

I teach 6th grade. This is the first year my students were not yet born on Sept 11. I usually watch the BrainPop clip about 9-11. Since I teach in a Catholic school, we then have a prayer service for the people affected by the tragedy.

This is the thread from a few days ago with a similar question. There were several good ideas listed.

This is a link to a short movie about how they used boats to take people off Manhattan Island after the towers fell. It isn't too graphic (in my opinion) and it looks at 9/11 from a different perspective. I am giving my students a list of character traits that we work on all year and then will ask them to find those traits in people from the movie.

I teach 5th

Perspective. The current group of seniors were in Kindergarten when 9/11 happened.

We do a moment of silence, but most teachers don't do anything.

The Brainpop movie is too much for my second graders. I think it would frighten them. I'm checking out the other suggestions.
Our whole school is wearing red/white/blue for Patriots Day but I'd like to do something else....

I have never seen the boatlift video before. It will be perfect for my fifth graders.

I read or show the DVD of "The Man Who Walked Between the Towers". Then I tell them where I was and what I was doing when this awful thing happened. Of, course now as mentioned these kids were not born yet. I allow a short discussion. Our school observed a moment of silence already and flag at half and flag lining our driveway.
