My principal said that exact quote to me before checking out for summer. I know she was trying to joke around, but she knows the reason I am leaving is to be close to my very sick father. It was just a very unusual thing to say in my opinion to your employee, but oh well life goes on...

I agree it was an odd thing to say- some people's sense of humor is mistimed or just "off."

The only thing that really matters is that you will be close to your dad. I will keep you and your dad in my thoughts and prayers. You will always treasure the time you have with him.

Best of luck to you!

Looks like a missed attempt at humor...

Very odd and awkward. She should have followed up with something like, "I'll miss you on our staff and I hope your Dad improves." I had a couple of principals who were not the brightest crayon in the box when it came to social situations.

That was strange. As if you donít already have enough she makes you feel guilty for leaving. She should have said you would be missed and wished you well.

At least she showed some emotions though. My P does not believe in emotions. She actually says that. She never wants to know anything personal about you or shares anything with us. If we ask for a day off and we start to say why, she stops us and says, ďI donít want to know.Ē That is so strange to me. It is like she is a Vulcan.
