writing and student with spina bifida

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I have a student with spina bifida on my case load. He is the classic case. Inconsistent with abilities, difficulty elaborating, etc, etc, etc.

He is included for all subject areas. Has difficultly with inferencing, and is just basic in writing. (very concrete) everything is as it is and that is that. There is no details, elaborations and writing as you can imagine in a TEDIOUS task.

WELL, the regular ed. teacher suggested to mom that he be pulled for extra help in reading. I spoke to my supervisor about this and he does not want him pulled, his mom is a person who talks well, but when suggestions for home are made, she puts them off on someone else (i.e., I'll have the OT do this, etc...) What my special education super. suggested is to progress monitor his writing. I am pretty dense and getting worse the closer to Christmas break it gets. Can ANYONE help me? What are you doing for progress monitoring writing?

You need a rubric

Find or develop a rubric and chose the skills you want to score--Use that with a few work samples attached to assess his skills. Do this every so often and you will have an effective on-going progress report.

I have a couple I got off here somewhere--I'll attach them. This first one is for the very low ability student and the next attachment for a little higher functioning but both can be modified (I think).

Here is the other:

I have not started using them yet in earnest so I am not sure what parts I want to keep and what I want to re-word yet.

You could do the same. Good luck.
