What can I hang from the ceiling?

I'm moving classrooms next week and am making a otherwise empty room/cold room look more like a grade 2 classroom!

Another teacher has those twisty snowflakes which is what I had wanted to create... so that is out.

Does anyone have any suggestions, templates inspiration? I'm drawing a big blank!

Also... any other suggestions for making it look brighter would be very welcome!

I mostly put up the students' work. You might have them do self portraits or other decorations. You could even have them make welcome signs and create their own bulletin board of current work.

I visit the Dollar Tree each season and buy the seasonal garland. I hook it to fishing line with a clothes pin at the end. The garland is so thin that you can add students' art work to the clip. Here's a link showing what the garland looks like:

Thank you all!!

I am having them do self-portraits for art that week so those will definitely go up once done!

I just wanted something to add more pop upon arrival... the garland would be great... I'll have to see if there is anything 'winter' themed? I also love the paper lantern idea.. did a google and the striped rectangular ones could definitely work!

We are not allowed to hang anything from the ceiling! These are great ideas. I'm sure that your room will look great!

It is against fire code. Also, can be very distracting for kids with ADD/ADHD. However, I think you are great for working so hard to make the room welcoming for your new kids.

I saw one teacher take the book jackets off her hardcover books and hang them over her reading nook. It looked cute.

Assuming you can hang things from the ceiling (not allowed here) why can't you use the snowflakes?
It isn't a competition and no one has a monopoly on snow.
Your grade 2 kids can make them -- I had my grade 1 kids make them last year.
A couple years ago I made the 3D snowflakes for the other classrooms. It was fun to see all the snowflakes everywhere.

"poofs"

I made tissue paper "poofs". My niece made these for a baby shower and told me how easy they were. I put a different color above each table then I can call them by their color. (purple table may line up...) You could just hang ones in your color scheme for your room.

They are really easy and cheap. Each poof takes one package of tissue paper. Here is a link I found on the web to show you how to make them I hope this helps.

Ann Marie Corgill (author of "Of Primary Importance) hangs 8x10 photos of her students from the ceiling. I think it is a powerful statement of what (who) is important in the classroom!
