I sent email to parents, to kids gmail accts, and on google classroom stream page. So here I am...waiting for at least one kid to show.. (out of only 4) I'm a pull out teacher but it's a mandated service so I guess they don't think it's as inportant as their class.. Which I do understand and Im sure they're overwhelmed too.

Did you give some idea of what you were going to do, or just set a meeting? Our art teacher did classes yesterday and they were very well attended.

Some of our teachers are doing a read aloud of a class book. Those seem to be attended well.

I am trying to think what kind of thing I could do that might draw people, but haven’t come up with anything yet.

This is why I don't want to do "live" groups. We have a meeting with my sped director tomorrow and the groups via zoom was one of her suggestions. I'm going to suggest uploading pre-recorded videos kids can follow along to as well as extension assignments they can do after the video. That way, they can complete it whenever works for the family schedule and not have to be sitting in front of the computer at 9 AM every day or whatever. I honestly don't know if many will do the work either way, but I think I have a better shot with making in available for whenever vs. trying to put them on a strict schedule. Plus I don't want to waste my time sitting around in front of my computer all day waiting on people to show up! I hope my director goes for it. Classroom teachers are only supposed to do one "live" class meeting for 20 minutes daily so it doesn't seem fair that I would have to be teaching in front of my computer all day long.

If live has to be done, how about doing a recording of it so you can post it for students who can't make that time? Then you aren't just wasting your time.

Not very many of our students are participating in most things academic. The things they are showing for are the fun things - however we aren't officially doing online school. Yet.

Have some sort of a "draw" to lure them in.

I bring my pet to our meetings/read alouds...the kids LOVE it!

I also renamed it to include my pet's name.

I regularly get 19/21 joining each day.

Might be worth a try...

Here are some questions to consider.

1. Do the students have the technology at home to access and/or get on Zoom?

2. If the have tech at home, Do students know how to access Zoom independently? Some parents are still working outside of the home.

3. Are students sharing technology with Siblings who may need the technology at the same time.

4. Do they want to meet “live” ? Many people are comfortable in their homes in their comfortable clothes & not able to access barber shops, hair appointments etc.

They can learn without going Live.

I would prefer not meet in a live Zoom format, because I am comfortably working
