I never knew watching a pet die would be so hard. Our 18 year old cat has gone downhill very rapidly in the past couple of days. Weíll take her to the vet to have her put down next week, but I honestly donít think sheíll make it until Monday. Iím just sitting here petting her and crying.

Over the last few years, my dog dug a big hole in the bank in our backyard. She has had a rough 24 hours. Just a bit ago she crawled into the hole and is laying there. I hate to move her, but I don't think I can leave her there for the night. SHe hasn't eaten all day and only took a little bit of water.

It is much harder than I ever considered.

It is very hard to go though it. My first dog had terminal cancer and deteriorated very rapidly. I did have time to mentally prepare myself, but it was very sad. My second dog had cancer, but we didn't know it until a tumor ruptured and she had to be put down as soon as the vet saw the ultrasound. Again, very hard in a different way because there was no preparation for what happened. It was that fast.

Thinking of you and anyone else that is going through this. Their love for us is unlimited, but their lives are so short. And even if the pet had a long life, it is never enough.

((tchrrx and Kahluablast)) my sincere condolences to both of you as your beloved pets move on to the rainbow bridge. I've said goodbye to many pets and was filled with grief each time. The unconditional love and companionship from a pet is a powerful gift to us.

I am so sorry. I had to decide to put my cat down last week who had kidney failure and she was rapidly failing and hadn't really eaten anything in weeks. She wasn't even quite 13. It's so hard :-(

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Almost as bad watching as now having to call my adult kids and let them know. My youngest (24) actually saved her money to buy the dog when she was just turning 10. I am waiting for her to get off work to call her.

Thank you all for your kind words. We took our cat in to be put to sleep yesterday morning. It was a hard day. I managed to get through school and family night at the book fair. Then it hit me all over again when I got home and she wasn't here.

I really had no idea it would affect me this hard. Thanks again for being supportive.

Iím very sorry for both of you. They are never with us long enough. We only borrow our pets. Perhaps itís because there are so many more waiting for a loving home that they donít live as long as us.
