I am so frustrated with the way my school handles MAP testing! We received a testing schedule this morning. I was scheduled for Wednesday. About midway through the morning my principal comes in and says they need to move my testing time (no reason given) and how about today? I said I'd rather not do it today since it was our first day back from Thanksgiving break. After some back and forth she basically told me I had to do it today. So we end up testing this afternoon at what is our normal recess time. The P even said maybe testing today would be better because the kids wouldn't have time to get nervous! Then she was quizzing them on what their goal score was and seemed puzzled when none of them knew it - of course they didn't, I hadn't even had a chance to talk with them about it, and even if they had known it before break, they would have forgotten it by now.

So, of course most of my kids' scores end up being in the toilet. I am so upset! The other times I've given this test I usually had gains of 10 points or so on the second test. This time kids were scoring lower than they did at the beginning of the year! You would think people would have better sense than to test on a Monday after a break.

Our school's scores were fantastic in early Sept. - too fantastic. We questioned how this could be, well.... Today we get an email. Something or other had happened and the scores from Sept. were in error. How much in error we don't yet know, but the point is they are not accurate. So, maybe your school had a snafu also. Testing makes me want to barf. The only ones wanting all this testing are the companies. That's their bread and butter. Of course the state I am in wants to show how badly the teachers are teaching to explain why the kids aren't learning. Hang in there.

My school also got the email about the test score snafu. Thank heavens! According to the scores we received, 2/3 of my class would be considered gifted in reading and math! Of course, those score weren't matching what I've been seeing in the class. Can't wait to see the "real" scores.
