He went to the hospital by ambulance this past Saturday. Luckily, the stroke only affected his speech. He can say sentences correctly but only miss one or two words.

We are optimistic, but, boy! am I tired!!!

That is a scary experience. My husband has had two strokes. Got back to 100% afterwards. I bet your husband will too. Hope he gets a speech therapist he really enjoys working with. Also hope you both get some rest now that things are getting back to normal.

How scary and sad.

I worked with speech pathologists for a few years. We worked out of the hospital not a school. She was young and was excellent. She had to evaluate a lot of patients who lost some or all of their speech. She explained that she always asked the wives, female relatives to leave the room when she evaluated a man. She said they tend to lose more of their ability to speak than women do. (Surprise, not surprise.) Anyway, the part of the brain that contains normal speech is usually more effected than the part that contains profanity. So, mild mannered, polite men would get frustrated during the assessment and let out a stream of profanity that was completely out of character. Odd but true. So, just in case you are in the room and this happens, don't be upset.

The return of language and speech is usually good. Speech therapy helps when needed.

Back to your post. That had to be traumatic for you and DH. Hope things go well for you both. You are also effected by this. Make sure you take care of yourself even as you are focused on him. Virtual hugs!

You've had a pretty scary life event. I'm glad to hear that your DH is showing progress in recovering his speech! That's encouraging news. Now's the time to take it easy for both of you! It's exhausting to care for family members.
