Update: Multi-Focal Contact Lenses

Awhile back I asked about experiences with multi-focal contacts, and I decided to give them a try. I picked up my trial pair on Friday, and they are amazing! I was able to clearly see my computer screen, objects in the distance, and items close to me. There is a little getting used to close stuff because Iíve been so used to putting things closer when I canít see them with my bifocal or without my glasses at all.

Iím also having to remedy a dry eye issue, but I think I can manage them for a regular school day without issues.

I go Friday to have them checked and see if the doctor okays them or needs me to try another kind. Iím so happy I tried them.

Super! I love mine as well. I use dry eye drops before putting them in. The only issue I have is driving in the dark. I keep a pair of old progressive glasses in the car for just that purpose. It is great not having to switch glasses, etc, when shopping or going out. I do not wear them every day, but more when we go out somewhere.

Questions

I wore gas permeable contacts for years (single vision) but switched to progressive lens glasses due to my dry eyes and problems with close up vision. Are the multi focal contacts like progressive glasses, and are they soft contacts? Iím afraid Iíd have trouble with them since Iíve worn glasses now for so long. Thanks!

They come in many types. I have my right eye reading script and my left is distance. Works best for me. We see with our brain, not our eyeballs!

Yay! I love mine too. Iím retired now, but funny, one of the first places I wore mine was into a teacher supply store. Oh my, all the colorful stuff at once was almost too much. I think that was a sign, I retired soon after.
As one PP said, I donít like driving with them at night either. But I have astigmatism, so that could be part of that problem.

Mine are the same.

My regular vision were Acuvue, but the doctor felt like Bausch & Lomb would be better with my dry eyes.

Yes, they are basically soft contact lens progressive lenses.

It had been about two years since I had worn my contacts regularly. I'd worn soft contacts from age 12 to age 46. Then I started wearing them less and less. I think I'm going to need some time to adjust to wearing them every day again. Otherwise, I'm very pleased.

Mine are Alcon comfort plus dailies. They were recommended to me because of astigmatism. They work for me...
