2020 miles in 2020!
Old 01-01-2020, 03:18 PM

DD and I are taking on this challenge: walk 2020 miles in the year 2020.

The mileage free apps I use donít do running totals, so I decided Iíd write my mileage daily on my old-fashioned paper calendar. Very cool for me because I see it every dayóhopefully motivating.

To make it, I have to walk at least 5.6 miles every day. Today I walked 6.8 miles.

Anyone want to join me?

That is an average of 5 1/2 miles a day! I don't know if I can do that... i would like to take the challenge, but without counting my "tooling around the day" steps, I don't think I could do that! In the summer I have some weeks generally where I could say I did that average, but not the whole year!

If I count my steps toward the time, I will take the challenge. If I can't, then no way!

Great goal either way!

Thatís an ambitious goal but walking is part of your daily routine and you live in a place with mild weather so Iím confident you can do it!

I did 1000 miles in a year which is 3 miles a day. Certainly doable but it was tough when weather or health or travel messed with the routine and I had to walk lots and lots of miles to make it up.

I set the goal last year to do 2019 miles. I counted all my exercise not just walking. I turned it into a math problem with my class and they figured out how many I did and how many I had left. I ended up doing 2042 miles last year.

Iím doing 2020 miles this year.

I wish I could! I am in physical therapy now for my knee. I have not completely recovered from the fall I had at the end of August. I will be happy when I can walk a couple of miles again every day.

Friends, I know how lucky I am to be retired and have the time and weather and health to attempt accomplishing this goal. I figure an attempt is good.

And hereís whatís really funny: I didnít drive 2020 miles last year. I walked more than I drove. How weird is that?

Lasflores,

How did you turn all your exercise into miles? I think I would love to take on this challenge, but to do it just walking would make it hard.

I tracked outside exercise with the app Strava and anything done indoors I used machines. I put it in a google sheet that calculated each type and helped to keep me on track.

Awesome! Go for it!

I think my goal will be less than that this year. I have been working out regularly but not walking miles every day. Next year I could see myself ready for this kind of goal.

I'll join you but I'll be doing 2020 km in 2020. Today, I walked 6.2 km so I'm well on my way.

I love walking! I use my Fitbit to motivate me to go farther when I want to quit. The weather these last 3 or 4 weeks has not been good walking weather, so I havenít done well lately. Tonight I walked a little over 4 miles with 81 active minutes. I am hoping to get back to walking and get back to walking at least 5 miles a day. My neighbor and I have been meeting at 5 AM to walk until recently due to weather and schedules. Time to get back to it! Great goal, Amiga13!

That's a great goal! I go bicycling daily (unless its raining or too cold, then I do the elliptical at the gym). I think I am going to set a biking goal too!

You go girl!

I canít walk 2020 miles in a year because of a bum foot, but I thinking that would be a great Viking goal- if I count both my indoor and outdoor biking. I did 10 miles outside today.
