This is the 355th Last Nail In The Coffin!

Maybe this will be another last I celebrate--last angry parent.

Sorry, you've had such a rough time today and I'm sure things will seem better with a good night's sleep. If I remember right, you've had some serious medical problems in this last year and so please take care of yourself. You're more important than anything and you have to put yourself first. Stress can make you sick and some parents/students are nothing but stress! Hang in there!

I think my principal will defuse it. The mom is angry that I texted her about her child being on her phone in class. Our new school policy is to write a referral if a phone is out. (Our students have become SO distracted with phones and have been taking inappropriate photos and videos at school.)

I also said I was increasingly worried about the child being off task. That also made her mad that it was my 1st contact. "Increasingly" implied that I had previous concerns.

When I initially texted her I was expecting a "oh thank you so much for not writing her up". Instead I will be having an angry meeting soon with the parent.

I had a similar situation. I contacted that parent by email. Got an email back i support. Then I had an appointment after school, so the parent showed up and after picking up her child, wanted to see me and was now mad.

I received a very lengthy email from the parent chewing me out for everything she could think of under the sun. She called the principal to air her complaints. The principal tells the parent, "are you sure we are talking about the same teacher?" I never respond immediately, especially when a parent is venting, so I didn't respond. (Sometimes those face-to-face meetings are better because just like on-line bullies, in person, they tend to be more rational and not see the teacher as some mean monster.)

Next day, the dad calls the principal to apologize and I get another email with an apology. She mixed me up with another teacher! The rest of the year was fine and I did have to contact her again about the phone, so she took the phone away from her child.

You showed concern for her child, so hopefully she will see the light.

I read these posts then had to check to make sure I was on the right board, the one “exclusively for retired teachers.” (see top of main page to verify) If you need to post teaching vents here instead of the vent board, maybe you could put an alert in the subject line so happy people like me can avoid them.

Thank you. I know this sounds crabby, but there are soooooo many boards for teaching concerns and only 1 for retired teachers. I love this calm and welcoming place that is away from teaching.

I'm sorry you had to experience this. May it just be a sign that you are making the correct decision by retiring!

I am glad you will be joining the many happy and retired people soon. Thanks for reminding me of the things I don’t have to deal with all year.

I won't post a vent again. I am very sorry. You are correct, this is the wrong place.

Thanks, new friend! I am looking forward to all the fun on this board.

My heart has actually been so much lighter since I told my people at school. I still have a formal observation next week. And for the 1st time ever I am not even worried about it. I signed up for the earliest spot instead of wallowing in it for weeks.
